Cookie got word of a local gnarly buck and headed out with her cameras with about an hour of time available. I figured, "yeah right, total waste of time wandering through the thickets." Took her all of 30 minutes to find him during the early morning foraging hours. Looks to have found an alfalfa plant. Don't know if it's relevant or not. He's all healed up now, but obviously he was stiff and gimpy on the right front. Looks to be dropping a bit of summer hair as well. With the exception of his right ear, an accompanying 3 by looked to be in better shape. See lots of ears like that. Maybe a good handle when coyotes etc are trying to bring them down as youngsters. Have a good one,

By muley standards, Neither of those two are impressive at all. Looked as some of her other images, and they barely exceed ear width. Knock off the velvet, and they might be just short. I'd guess both are 2 1/2 years old. We've had identifiable fawns around the house that were 3 by's at 1 1/2, and 4 by's at 2 and 1/2. Get to 4 or 5 yrs and then they can be impressive. Hoping this guy makes it through the coming season and we can find him again this fall.

I've heard Oregon deer browse marijuana fields, listen to Jimi Hendrix, have black lights in their dens, and protest the establishment. That's why their antlers are twisted.

First recorded use of the term I can find references to 1773. Doesn't say whether it came from kids literature or not.
I'd guess this is a rather poor site to troll for kids as there seem to be few responders.
This isn't one of those "do you still beat your wife questions is it?
Have a good one,

"Gnarly" is a term that I grew up with and I am 73. It is traditionally used to denote something that is rough or complicated.
