Where in blue blazes is Nowhere, NM?

Many people regard just about anywhere in New Mexico as being "in the middle of nowhere", and since I live close to the middle of somewhere in New Mexico, I figured that was a good as being in Nowhere, New Mexico. In other words, I made it up.

Well, I'm betting like all Ruger rifles they are inaccurate. Why did they name them after a pistol????

Absolutely, rugers just don't shoot worth a hoot

Nah, that couldn't possibly be an out of the box ruger, with it's first handload printing 3 into just under 1/2", and the third load grouping just over 1/2". Efforts further hindered by a very heavy factory trigger and a mere 2.5X scope.

Both Lipsey's and AcuSport have Hawkeyes ready to ship to dealers. A gunshop in Olathe KS already has two.

Okay, somethin' strange is goin' on here.

1. Ruger makes barrels that shoot accurately.

2. Ruger actually ships a product within a month of it's announcement, instead of 1 year later or never.

Awright - whoever kidnapped the Ruger company and replaced them with this imposter, we want our real Ruger back!

Wait, on second thought....

Amen. Very un-Ruger like of them to actually have some of the new stuff available to customers this soon after announcing it.

I'm guessing they want to move some guns. If they really want to move some guns the need to slash prices on the regular M77 MkII's. I could be tempted at clearance prices.

I've heard that Ruger is no longer owned by the Ruger family. Perhaps change is good and the new management is more business savy.

I've a few Ruger rifles and handguns, and other than an old model 357 blackhawk, I have no complaints with accuracy. My wifes u/l .308 shoots as well as the pictured 350 rem mag, and this is despite both rifles having obviously generous chambers when one looks at how much brass grows on firing.

I'd venture to say the majority of M-77 mk II's are capable of such accuracy if one goes to the trouble of handloading. For factory ammo they are a crap shoot, but still satisfactory for what I expect from factory ammo.

Most distributors have discounted their MKII's from about $469 to $429. Hopefully that savings will be passed along to Retail.

I looked at a .243 and a .270 today. The Hawkeye is a pretty handsome rifle and I'm sure it won't be long before I pick one up.

The bluing is now matte and the stainless bolt is finished in a matte grey (like their target rifles). The recoil pad is red and sort of feels like a Kick-Ez only a bit softer. The trigger's were a lot crisper than most of the MKII's I've handled and broke between 3-4 lbs. The stock has been noticeably slimmed down and feels a good bit lighter and handier. The checkering along the forearm is also a different pattern. The wood finish is the same as the MKII and of course neither piece of walnut was anything special. And the floorplate has the Ruger emblem pressed into the metal...sort of cheesy in my book but not unattractive.

I just hope they didn't name it after that left-wing, gun-hating "Hawkeye" Pierce character from the old M*A*S*H TV series (played by the left-wing, gun-hating actor Alan Alda). I think he was supposed to have been named for the character from the Last of the Mohicans also.

Was in Sportsman's Warehouse tonight, they had prominent signs on the gun racks lowering the retail prices on Mark II's from $529 down to $469.

No schitt???

Ruger stock has been publicly traded for quite some time... "The Ruger Family" never owned the company.

Well, you know, I'm not one to toot my own horn. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

By the way, I looked at the site and do not see .358 Winchester as an offering in the Hawkeye. What am I missing?
