Washington black bear yesterday. Spot and stalk. One shot at 325 yards, with a .30-06 & 165 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip. Fired from sitting, no rest. Very impressed with the quick kill from the Nosler Ballistic Tip.

Good start to the hunting season!

Regards, Guy

Nice work, one less fawn and calf killer out there..... beyond popular belief, a boolit, any boolit in the right place works.... go fill your second tag guy. Later

Not sure. Smaller than the last couple we took here. I'd say about "average" for a Washington black bear. Maybe 275 pounds? Didn't measure the hide before I put it in the freezer.

Turning the meat into breakfast sausage.

Not sure yet what I'm going to do with the hide. I don't need another bear rug around the place, but he had such a nice hide... mostly black with a tinge of lighter chocolate to it, and a white patch on his chest. Really nice fur!

I was just going to take the skull and bleach it, but his hide looked so nice... Ah well. Maybe friend or family will get a bear rug?

Nice job Guy,

I'd think if you have a willing relative or friend, a bear rug would make a wonderful gift.

I always wanted to kill a black bear and blew a couple opportunities. If you don't want the hide, you may consider shipping it to the North American Fur Auction, if it is legal. They sell them every year.

Nice bear, Guy!

You might want to make some bear pastrami out of the next one. Eileen made some this summer that was really good....

My buddy shot one Friday aft. in NE WA with the front paw 5 1/2 inches wide (all of him I have actually seen). It seems to me there is a multiplier for the paw width to est the square, does anybody remember what it is? He used a 338 and 210 NPT's and spined him. Thanks-Muddy

The formula I've always heard (and used) is add an inch to the front paw width for the approximate square of the hide in feet.

What part of the state GuyM? Talked to some road hunters yesterday in the blues and a couple of them had said they saw a bear but thought it was to small.
