I used to buy sock liners for hiking from my local Academy, but they stopped carrying them.
I find these to be VERY handy when hiking tough terrain.
if anyone has a lead on these, I'd appreciate you letting me know.
thanks all, and good luck this season.

Not silk, but an excellent product that may fit your needs: http://www.injinji.com/shop/liner.html

thanks guys. I'd already seen the wintersilk product line. the injinji socks are new to me.
anyone know of a cheaper solution? at ~$9 to $15/pair, the cost these things stacks up fast.
I only ask, because I'm looking to find a deal for about 4 new guys on our elk trip.
Probably looking to buy about 20 pair in total. =/

I like silk but the synthetics perform nearly as well at about half the price. Get ones that have odor prevention treatment on them.
Merino wool liners are nice but about the same or more than silk.
And really cheap are bulk thin dress socks as long as they are not all nylon.

Go find some socks that the nurses wear. You could even get the thigh high socks for more support and comfort for those long hiking days. Any nurse could turn you on to places that carry them. I doubt that anyone besides nurses and waitresses stay on the feet for longer periods of time. powdr

I haven't checked, but look at the REI website. They market many such items.

Try Sierra trading post. They will have at least the synthetic, and often the real thing. Good price too.
