They don't come by often, and they don't seem to be hurting the fishing.

Just a couple of the fish we caught Labor Day.

A little 4lb Large Mouth.

And a nice Shell Cracker.

Those are nice fish!

I have hybrid bluecat and coppernose bluegills in mine with a good amount of fathead minnows.

I need to catch a few. Those catfish are as long as my arm now. Bluegills as big as my hand.

They ought to stink up the pan pretty good!

That's a fact!

Besides the number of fish they eat, is the number of fish they "spear" when in your pond. They may stick a fatal hole in quite a few fish before they end up with one on their beak. mad
We've got them in our pond all the time and have ever since we moved here 8 years ago. Pond is still FULL of bluegills and largemouth bass. So full that you simply cannot have a worm in the water for more than 30 seconds without catching a bluegill.

problem is when you have the only pond/tank with fish for miles around and its only about an acre in size.

Or maybe that was Sandhill.

Catch them poking around my front yard from time to time.

BTW- they do know what a 5 gal bucket and aerator are used for. Bastids. grin

Hard for me to imagine water being that scarce. There are ponds, lakes, swamps, reservoirs, rivers and streams all over the place here.

Our pond level is dropping due to the drought and heat that we are having this year. The Herons move in and eat like it's a buffet. The fish have no where to escape.
