2muchgun,
One thing I'm starting to suspect is that different copper solvents work differently depending on humidity. Here in the dry West CK definitely works quicker than KG, but might not in more humid conditions. Haven't tested that, but will be interested to hear your results.

I once bought a used .270 that apparently had NEVER been cleaned in its life, and the bore had what I call "geologic fouling," alternating layers of copper and powder crust. I'm using that one!

If he finds a layer unusually high in iridium that means the bore was dirty when the extinction asteroid hit.

No, "geologic fouling" is the result of too much fracking.

I've used M-Pro7 a good deal and it works pretty well but I think Montana Extreme works a little better. I've used quite a few copper removers over the years, and while most work to some extent, I'm liking the Montana Extreme products these days.

I've been using KG-12 for some time & it works pretty well; recently tried BoreTech Eliminator &, IME, it's faster & does a more complete job.
I've not tried any of the Montana Extreme/Copper Killer stuff.
But I can say that using Dyna Bore Coat makes cleaning much easier with whatever is used.
No matter what copper remover I use, I always use a carbon/powder fouling cleaner first or just leave Wipeout in for awhile.

hunter8mm,
CR-10 works, but if you leave it inside the bore more than 15 minutes it will pit the surface--as will any other water/ammonia based copper solvent like Sweet's.
Many shooters prefer oil-based solvents such as Montana X-Treme or Wipe-Out because you can leave them in the bore as long as you want and they won't pit the bore. I usually leave oil-based solvents in overnight, letting them do the work, instead of me having to stand there and push another patch through every 15 minutes.

I leave Wipe-Out on my guns overnight and sleep much better knowing that they are getting cleaner while I'm sleeping.
It's all about a good night's sleep!

I did not know that Wipe-Out was oil based! Thanks for the info

Whatever works, works. After cleaning and getting the cases fully fireformed the rifle fired this four shot group Sunday morning. Not Super Shoot material but not bad for a .243 barrel with well over 2300 rounds through it. One thing cleaning out all that copper buildup did was let me get a better measurement of throat length, which I found had receded some .025" since it was last measured some unknown hundreds of rounds ago - so that .020" seating depth noted here was actually more like .045". I'll adjust that for the next rounds and hopefully tighten that group up some...
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!
