That's a nice pickup tj, they aren't all that common. I don't know that I'd call them rare though. Others may have a better insight on that question.

Only made four years IIRC, maybe three if you consider 1960 may not have had any made. I recently found one myself. Not that common to come across.

Pretty uncommon, the featherweight 99F was outselling the EG in 308 in those years pretty heavily. Nice grab!

Well all you need now is a Model R in 308 to complete your set of pre-mil models in 308..then go for 243 and 358!!

I have a 99EG in 308 and really like it. I look for them and they really are not seen much. I have only ever seen 2, and I bought the first one I ever saw.

Buy all you can find!! I've not seen a R in 308 or 358. North Carolina is not a hot bed for 99's. Not sure now which one is the 308 and which is the 243. I'll make some new pictures when it stops raining, probably Wednesday and will post. Steve

All of the pre-mil .308's were made in the 900,000 serial range, about 68,000. Most were F's. The .308 was the more common of the EG's with maybe 5000 or less(?) made. Just my guess from data collected.

Rick, then why don't we see more of them, with the EG style stocks?

1 in 200, not a lot. Popular rifle to own and not sell.
Who here has a .308 EG?
Who has a .308 R?
Who has a .308 F (pre-mil, only)?
I have a .308 EG and F, no R.

Bought this one unfired for $450.Think I sold it for $900.Don't want to have anything to do with a 99 in 308.Believe it or not I'd rather shoot my F's in 358. [img:center] [/img]

What we own versus what was made isn't necessarily representative.
I've owned a 99RS in 308 but never a 99EG in 308, that doesn't mean the RS's are more common. I've passed on several 99EG's in 308 because they just don't thrill me for the money they wanted. And I've owned 4 or so premil 99F's in 308, but have seen so many I couldn't begin to guess how many there were.
A guy would have to watch the auctions for a couple of years and record everything that went by and then give an educated guess - and even then it may not be representative. Jmo..

A few F's in 243, 308, 358, no R's in Winchester cartridges, EG in 308. F's are by far the easiest, R's the hardest IMO. Postmil F in 284 doesn't count.
