We made it.
I was grateful for the company, Tom made the trip north as well as Missy and her boyfriend. I believe 3 grouse were taken during the weekend. I 38-ed one with my daily carry, snubbie J frame smith, lol. Tom and Joey both used scatterguns to take their birds.
We put some little salt blocks out and we attempted some road work. The road work was non helpful because it's simply too wet. We got some material (sand) moved into low, water holding spots on the trail, but it all just turned to soup. The 10 day forecast looks ok for rain, maybe next week I will get out there for an evening and try to shape the fill on the sloppy spots.
We cut some firewood yesterday. Mostly wind blown trees that had been down for a couple of years, and a couple dead standing. I could stand to cut a little more, mostly because the exercise wouldn't kill me. But I believe we have no worries heading into hunting season with what we have put up so far.
Something clever here.

Sweet ! I'm a positive guy, but the rain is negatively effecting me ! Rained all weekend here & we are getting 20mm today & another 10mm tonight. Spent the 2nd weekend, in a row, working on our basement storage. This used to be our wood room, before we switched to high efficiency propane.

That looks like a very productive project, I'd be proud of that.

Yeah, needed to get done & I was happy to do/doing it, but my 50 year old back & muscles beg to differ. That & using a drill/driver wrong handed. Apparently, the laundry room also needs attention.

I have to disagree with Dave...I believe that excercise may actually kill us. My hamstrings are telling me I need a longer bar on the chain saw for less squatting and bending. We had a great time and as always Dave and Pam are great hosts. We started making our lists for deer camp cabin supplies and food lists. She's going to be a dandy!

Dave, can you take some of them big piles of wood chips up there and fill in the mud holes with? not sure if that would work or not but I don't see them shavings moving from where they are piled. free fill. I wish I would have driven in. when I did see a head down the road, I thought they would have came out but No avail. Next time!
Guys, MN deer lottery results are in! I WIN.

Thought I would pop in and see how you folks are doing. Great to see a nice weekend was had at Chickenbuck! I hope all of you folks enjoy your fall, have good hunting seasons, and hunt safe! I really hope the deer population is up and you can harvest a bunch of deer.

Its not a chaffuer service buschy. We were trying to drain the road. Sorry you didn't want to get your truck dirty. Only you and the missy didn't drive back in. Lol
There really isn't much you can do in that road but to fill it. That got so saturated it's just tough to get it to dry.

T, could you go old school with a corduroy road?
My grandpa and his crew did a 30 mile cut through the swamp near Ely for the state back in the 40's I think. He said they had to use corduroy roads for much of the way, drop logs, line em up, and cover with some fill. We still have the plans. Might have some pics somewhere. Took them all summer.

Yeah you probably could. I think the [bleep] part of that road is actually state land so really there we were just digging trenches with shovels to get the water off. Thats what we were doing when buschy was poking around there. It actually worked pretty good. Pam, missy, and Shannon were doing a few and Nate me and Joey were doing a few. Dave was hauling in sand to some other spots. Then it rained the next day and screwed it up again.

It sounds like a real mess. Is it even possible to do this right, or is it just low ground, and that's all there is to it, and it can't be made better? Jeez, I'd be dumping everything in there I could possibly get my hands of if it would help.

You could haul in a load of crushed concrete... if'n you wanted to see how fast a load of crushed concrete sinks...

It's just that the Chevy's have to park at the landing because they can't get through. It is kinda sporty, I'll admit. 4-lo is your friend.
