After reading about the politically correct Magnificent 7 remake ... started thinking about great John Wayne westerns.
Trying to remember the name of the movie where Wayne is in Mexico with an Indian and his dog. He wants to get
a room for the night. And the Inn Keeper tells him "the dog is okay in the room but the Indian must sleep out back"

Watched "The Spoilers" other night (1942). One scene where Marlene Dietrich asked a saloon patron known as "The Poet"'if he was writing a poem about her? He replied "no it's a poem about the Lady known as Lou!" It was a cameo appearance by Robert W. Service!!! He was composing "The Shooting of Dan MaGrew".

Service had arrived in Hollywood after leaving his country cottage in France one step in front of the Germans in 1940! He would try his hand a some screenwriting.

I predict this is going to be one of those "perennial threads" so I thought I would list all of the Duke's movies . . . The first Wayne movie I remember seeing at the drive-in was "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" also saw at the drive-in "The Green Berets" . . . 1962 was a big year for the Duke! I've seen a couple of dozen Wayne Movie re-runs on TV. Had no idea he had made 140 movies starting in 1930. Jimmy Stewart was also one of my favorite actors.

Ha! Hondo on right now on Starzwestern.

While I always enjoyed watching the Duke, I gotta admit one of my most favorite western actors was the Coop!!

Gary Cooper was COOL!

"The Searchers" is my favorite JW movie, followed by "The Cowboys" and "Big Jake".

I read somewhere that the dog with JW in the "Big Jake" was actually Lassie, and that the crew dyed her fur black, for that Movie. Also, I think I read somewhere that Lassie was actually a male dog.

Thats a big list! Had no idea he was in so many shows.

My favorite is Rio Bravo.

As far as stars of westerns go, I would suppose that

Ben Johnson didn't stand behind too many people in line either.

The lists do not all agree but I came up with 250 John Wayne movies, 162 of them considered feature films. 84 westerns.
