This is gonna turn into a "how to [bleep] up a product launch" story if they aren't real, real careful.

Well, my well used one has been killer and WAY better than anything I've used. Kicks ass on my Geovids. Seeing others post readings out to unbelievable distances along with a $350 price tag made me pull the trigger on another. I figured I'd lean on the warranty if it didn't pan out, and that's where I'm at.

4 months will suck but I've ordered McMillans with their GFY attitude before, so I'm prepared. At least a little anyway.

Screw you! I'm voting for Trump again!

I think the ramp-up from initial hit product to making a bunch more got mishandled somehow, and the 2nd batch or whatever has QC issues.

It's keeping me from buying one! I was all set 6 months ago.

I'd blame the Chinese before I'd blame Sig.

I'm not really blaming; I'm sure that it's a difficult process and fraught with peril. Just hypothesizing as to the why of it. They were ADORED by the early adopters but now have seemingly major QC issues.

Interesting. Ordered one Saturday, showed up today. $349. Haven't monkeyed with it yet. Vortex showed up yesterday and didn't even open the box. $289

Wonder what the puke record is on the Vortex?

My Swarovski is still runnin great. Great optics too. The 1 time it puked they sent me a loaner overnight, fixed mine, then sent the loaner back. Hauled it around 3 states. Schitty customer service.....

The Sig runs circles around the two Swaro RF's I've used, but maybe they are better/smaller/faster/cheaper now.

The tiny size, scan mode and angle comp is a potent combo.

My bad, just hoping for the best.

Sounds like a lot aren't running circles...

Yep. It's not the battery...

Well that sucks.

My 1600B performance drops off quick once the battery droops. Most noticeably in bright sun. With a new battery it'll range trees to 1600+ yards and reflective objects like cars to 2000 yards.

This is just speculation, but I think the alignment of the source and receiver are trickier to execute than we may realize.

I had a Swaro that was reliable to 2000+ yards on just about any object, under any condition other than fog. Others, with the same make/model reported less and sometimes much less performance. Same design and components, but I think they differed in their alignment or calibration.

My first 1600B flat out sucked. It struggled to range trees at 1000 yards. I asked Leica for a replacement, and that replacement to be tested by a human outdoors. The replacement 1600B can't compete with a 'good' Kilo but overall does great for me and nearly as well as the Swaro while being smaller, lighter, and giving temp, pressure, and angle of the dangle.

I recall some posts at other forums where several Leica dealers were personally testing Leicas and selling the 'good' ones and sending the others back.

And for the record, Swaro customer service was great. The Swaro LRF leaked, but they got me a loaner and refurbed mine.

All that to say, there seems to be a bunch of Kilos out there that rock out to 3000 yards. Just need to figure out how to get a 'good' one. Hopefully the former Leupold employees get Sig's customer service on track.

Sig Kilo 2000 VS Vortex Ranger 1000....

Raining cats and dogs, plenty of fog. Anything under 1,000 yards either missed a beat. Buildings, trees, whatever. Found a field of cows, furthest was 631. Neither had a problem. Coupla small does at 256. Furthest building I could get the Sig to range was 1,407. Vortex was 1,040. Used the batteries that came with them.

Scan mode on the Sig is a lot faster than the Vortex. Found a row of school buses parked diagonally and rattled across them from 602 to 640'ish and they kinda jumped in 2 yard increments. Same with the Vortex, just had to move a little slower. 6x on the Vortex and 7x on the Sig. Makes it seem like you can hold the Vortex steadier. Sig give a little more detail. Clarity was about the same.

Like the eye cup, side clip, and threaded tripod hole on the Vortex.

Dunno, both seem fine in my book. Reckon it's a matter of which one you want be a fan of or if you feel the need for something with more than a 1,000 yard capability. Vortex has a better warranty.

Sig = $362 at my door from SWFA
Vortex = $289 at my door from Camerland. Actually from eBay and shipped direct from Vortex.

It is what it is....
