I am building a 250 Savage on a Remington 700 stainless action and I am looking for some guidance with respect to the stock and barrel contour.
I have a BDL short action stock with a standard barrel contour that is in great condition and I thought the rifle might look good in a wood stock as opposed to ordering a McMillan.
As far as barrels, I am thinking of ordering a Bartlein (probably go with a 22" barrel).
I am curious if anyone has any thoughts on using the take-off stock rather than ordering a McMillan. Additionally, assuming I use my BDL stock, which contour barrel would you recommend? I was thinking the 2B would be nice.
Appreciate any responses.

I love that chambering, I'd go 20" McMillan compact
Ping pong balls for the win. Once you've wrestled everything else in life is easy. Dan Gable I keep my circle small, I’d rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.
Ain’t easy havin pals.

I have had quite a few 250Savages. 1981 Wnchester, 1954Wnchester, Ruger RSI and a 250-3000Ackley Improved on a Mauser action.18in, 20in, 24in and 23in. All barrels were sporter and all shot good w/the right bullet. If I were in your shoes I would do a #2, 22in long and use your BDL stock. You can do a lot worse than H4895 if you reload. powdr

The only Remington 700 take-off barrels in 250-3000 would be from the 1984 run of 700 Classics and in 30+ years that I've been swapping barrels, I've only seen a handful for sale. I trimmed one back to 22", put one on a Remington Seven polished blue action, and bedded it in a Seven walnut stock. It balances nicely at 22" and has a 22" twin in 300 Savage, my tribute to the Savage 1920.
EDIT: While I like the 250-3000 and have been shooting rifles chambered for it for nearly 50 years, over the past couple of decades I have come to view it as nothing more, from a practical perspective, than an expensive to own 243.

You're probably right. That being said, sometimes you just want a particular rifle/cartridge. I appreciate the responses.

Reggie, while I'm not a fan of the .243...I am of the 100gr Partition and 110Accubond in the 250Sav. That includes large Northern and deep s.Texas deer. powdr

I'm probably a bit indifferent toward the 250-3000 because I've shot it for so long and have owned so many of them. After all of that, the shine has worn off for me.
