Everyone-

I am wondering about the KS Magnum barrel. I know the regular KS profile is a bit heavier than a featherweight profile - I can find info and specs in a number of threads. I can't seem to find anything about the KS mag profile.

Can you tell me about this? What does it finish at in a 24" barrel? What profile by any of the commercial makers is closest? Do any of the makers have duplication specs (Like Lilja does for the regular KS)?

Anyone have a comparison picture to a regular Remington sporter profile?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

I have one here, but I'm running out the door right now. I can post measurements later today.

I don't have a standard Rem barrel here for comparison pics though. My other Remington has a Rock #3 on it.

Here's a pic of the rifle I have with the KS Magnum barrel, she's the rifle on the right:

The rifle on the far left is a Brux #3, middle is a Bartlein #2.

The KS Mag is getting rebarreled this winter, I chose Pac Nor to do the work because I wanted it reblued (CM steel), and I wanted them to match the contour so I don't need to do any stock work. It's a 7 Mashburn right now and it's being rebarreled into a 7 Mashburn.

Muzzle (at crown, 24 inches): 0.650 inches

There are what looks like two taper lines. I can't measure the barrel in front of the receiver face without taking the scope off, and this rifle is headed to Wyoming with me tomorrow so that's a no-go. I assume it's whatever standard Remington shank out of the receiver. Then it tapers in a roughly straight line to 5 inches in front of the receiver face. At this point the barrel measures 0.750. Then it looks like a straight taper line out to the muzzle at 0.650. Hope that helps.

I can say with a standard fill McMillan it balances perfectly.

Pics when I can get on the computer. My 9-year old is either playing minecraft or doing math homework on it right now.

Joel-
Thank you very much! So the contour is a bit heavier than a rem sporter - I am comparing it to the REM06 profile in the custom contours on the Lilja site. Sort of a heavy sporter. The pictures are great and help a lot. Thank you.

I had Hart duplicate one off of my 7mmstw KS mtn rifle and I was happy with the results. It fit the original KS stock perfect. I did weigh the 24 inch take off barrel and the .284 KS magnum weighed the same as a 24 inch .308 magnum take off barrel.
If you are not trying to match a stock, a Remington Mag contour from any manufacturer will be very close in weight to a KS Mag contour.

I am trying to match a stock. I love this stock in another rifle with the light profile barrel, so when this one was available I bought it. I would like to try to fit it as closely as possible, because otherwise it will bug me every time I look at it!
