I built this rig a couple of years ago, chambered in 30-284 and use it for long range deer and coyote, shooting Hornady's 155 gr. A-MAX at just under 3,400 fps..





I shot this mangy coyote at a laser ranged 812 yds....




I shot this little guy at 1,062 yards. No wind, overcast sky and perfect shooing conditions.

30/284 is a dandy.

It is a beautiful looking rifle!

I am curious how you got "just under 3400 fps" in a case that only holds 66 gr of water.

The 30-06 which holds 69 gr of water maxes out at approximately 3000 fps with a 155 gr bullet.

The 284 parent case is a wonderfully made cartridge but pardon me if I say your claim is not possible.

I have built several 30-284 rifles over the years, and this is the "fastest" one that I have seen. The barrel is a 30" Lilja 3-groove and loads were shot over 3 different chronographs for verification, because we couldn't believe the velocities we were getting either. Actual recorded velocity is 3,362 fps..

These numbers are'nt as off as they sound. With a 30 " barrel and reloader 17 you can get those #'s with only 64,500 psi.

So 3 groove, 30" and RL-17 is your formula.
Did you use coated bullets?

I do coat my bullets with Danzac.

I did not and do not use RL-17 powder.
