I went hunting yesterday evening with two friends. I didn't see anything but one of the guys got a dandy buck. Not much of a rack to speak of but meat for the freezer. I took the previously mentioned 7mm-08 and found that the compact little rifle was really a joy in a not much room tree stand.

Has your brother in law practiced driving from the passenger seat so you can shoot as we discussed? Did you get that bigger motor installed on your automatic window? You know, the faster that window gets down, the more time you have to aim. Oh, and did you get that 10 Gazillion power spot light bought yet? One last thing, make sure you practice stopping the vehicle before you shoot or even a little bit of movement can disrupt your aim. So far, i think it is a good plan as long as you don't mind the possibility of jail time! I got my ear to the ground that is for sure. My brother had a 150 class 13 point buck at 40 yards last night but it was behind a branch so he had no shot. He is #1 on our hit list. Just a beautiful deer. I soooooo hope my daughter gets to see/shoot him. I cannot even imagine the excitement level.

Absolutely no shots will be taken from inside the truck, but it does have a sunroof........

I'm thinking about taking out the sunroof and putting in one of those swivel MG mounts. Think I could get an 870 rigged up to one of those?

I was heading back to our camp in Maine one year and just as I hit the main camp road what do I see coming down the road? A Ford pick up with a 6 ft tower built out of staging in the back of the bed and 2 old guys sitting on top of it in the back seat of a car! Talk about cushion hunting!
Speak softly and use a big bore... Where's El Cid when we need him...

I'm surprised we never did see something like that when we hunted near Park Falls, WI. We would usually hunt until noon Thanksgiving day, sometimes until Friday.
In WI, Thanksgiving is when most of the "crews" do their big drives. On Bear Lake Rd, we had to drive about 5 miles to get to our area we hunted. This road went right through the Chequamegon National Forest. One of the crews that we'd see doing drives would have 15-20 people lined up on the road, facing the woods. I'm not sure how many they had in the woods but 15-20 guys stretched over a 1/2 mile or so is a lot.

GG,you asked about the 7mm-08.It is a CVA "Hunter Compact" model. It is a break top single shot.Weighs anout 5-1/2 Lbs.The barrel is 20".It really lives up to the "compact" name. Has a good trigger pull.Very accurate.

I have a doctors apt Friday morning in roseau, otherwise we would be out there Thursday night. Friday night for sure the cabin lights will be lit and bullshit will be spilling out of the cabin windows.

2 years ago in ND, we were pheasant hunting and saw a guy standing up through the sun roof as they flew down this little road with roosters by the hundreds flying around them and the guy shooting like crazy! We stopped to watch and he never touched a bird.
Braggin' alert!!!! Proud of my daughter who joined the Alex high school trap team this year as a 7th grader. She shot a 20 last night after starting off in mid-Sept with a 3! Pretty fun watching the growth in just over a month! She is really excited!

Stan in SC That sounds like something I'd like. My old 99 puts on a pound every year, I swear.
