Bobin,

of all the cool rifles on the 'fire, yours are the ones I would most like to give a quick try. I WILL have a clone of your Mashburn one day, though probably not built by Semillion, unless Uncle Powerball comes through for me.

LOL

edit: though I suspect they would be to short for genetic freak me...

I wish I had built this one 25 years ago instead of five or so years, when I was younger and doing a lot more hunting because I really like this rifle and cartridge. Gene Simillion custom M70 chambered 7mm Mashburn Super with 24" Krieger barrel. It weighs a shade under 8 pounds as it's seen here. I shoot mostly 162 Amax in it but also use 160 NPT, AB, and Bitterroots.

The OP has had a Mashburn so this won't give him any new ideas... smile

Great thread for ideas.

Still working on this - cheap, fun, compact. A real pleasure to shoot.

2016 700 ADL 243.
Cut to about 18.5" recent 11 degree crown via a Manson tool set.
Old style 700 SS trigger, adjusted crisp and light.
Ebay bolt knob - home install - grind & file & die. Did not know how much I'd like the longer knob!
Bansner Sheep Hunter stock Devcon bedded and free floated. Duracoated with microwebbs and speckles. OD Green or ? coming. Fairly heavily modded. Flip flop.
Magpul bottom *plastic* for magazine on the cheap.
Harris.
SWFA 6x42MQ.
Smith Enterprise steel rings.
Warne 20moa steel rail, 27.5 mils up remain on the dial.
95 NBT at about 2900 LOL. Been 3/4-1"ish at 100, dope ok to 560m but was stringing horizontal when hot.
High hopes after crown fix, re-bed/re-float, and steel ring swap.

Thanks! I like the way the specks and squiggles came out.

Anyone considering the Magpul, it takes a pretty big bite - a cutout about like the full exterior size of a regular 700 floorplate...

T3 .300WM in a McMillan Sako Hunter.
Fixed 10x Mil/Mil SWFA in Talleys.

Zeroed 1 Mil high @ 100, puts it dead on at about 320, and allows me to just use the reticle for holdovers all the way out just past 1K, though I won't take a shot that far on a big game animal with a sporter rig.

Last week while validating my comeups, at just past 600, it put all three into about a 2&3/4" spot on the rock:

Thanks for the Kudos.

This one actually got blooded last year. As it ended up, it was a closer range (300 yards) shot, that could have easily been handled with my standard .308, but the elk had been staying in the wide open, so I had anticipated a much longer shot.

I will try again in a couple weeks when my cow hunt starts. smile

Christensen Arms Ridgeline, 308, 20in. barrel. VX6 2-12 b&c reticle, talleys, Javelin bipod. About 7.5 lbs unloaded. I'm most lethal with this stick so far...

Nosler M48 Liberty 300 wsm, 24in barrel. VX5hd 3-15x44 b&c reticle, talleys, harris bipod. 8.5 lbs w/o bipod, around 9.25 with. Only 30 rounds through it since purchase few weeks back, but so far I'm very happy. Balances really well and I hope to become proficient with it out to 700-1000 yards.

sorry I don`t have any pictures ,but this is my ultra long range elk rig I built.

338 lapau weatherby accumark with mark 5 receiver retrued, custom bonx 28 inch ported barrel, 8-32x56 niteforce scope,i use 285 grain x-bullets/lapua brass

" I took the original 338 lapua/ weatherby barrel off threw that barrel away, barrel had poor specs" new barrel and receiver work done by straight line machining who builds national champion 1000 yard bench guns, this machinist "greg walstrom" builds some of the best sniper rifles made for swat teams too. his phone # 320-272-4897

greg has also rebarreled some ruger no.1`s into 257 weatherby mags. for me both no.1`s shoot excellent

Awesome sporter weight long range rigs here. Great thread. Now I miss my winchester model 70 classic stainless 7mm rem mag that was set up for long range. The last buck shot with that one was lasered at 648 yards. I've recently been playing around with a Tikka t3 superlite to take that rifles place. I've also recently bought a 7mm WSM to play around with. Both rifles will be shooting the Hornady 162gr. ELD-X. However, since I haven't had enough time to play with these new 7mm magnums, I would grab for my 338wm built on an H&H pre 64 model 70 receiver. It sports a 24" gretan stainless barrel and shoots pretty good. Heres how she does at close range (100 yards):

She weighs in at 8 pounds even.
