Just got back from an Alexandria scouting mission. Man, am I gassed! Saw two does and a woodcock. Heard a few pheasants cackling too. Funny sidenote-the woodcock got up in front of me and appeared to fly about 50 yards and settle in again. Just after that I saw the two does. We had a little staring match going for a bit, and then the one doe stepped a couple steps to her left to see me better, and she must have literally stepped on that woodcock. The bird went up from all most between her legs. She jumped about 4 feet up in the air, mule kicked and took off doing about Mach 5. I got a good chuckle out of that, but I don't think the little timberdoodle was real thrilled with getting stepped on.

Somebody mistook you for an adult! I haven't been there for years. I imagine it's more beautiful than it was 20 years ago when I was there. Bring your fishing gear and fish in the mine lake across the road.

Tom, it's a great little resort, with fantastic facilities. They were building a new convention centre/chalet last season & just recently had the grand reopening. We stay in the lodge, on the hill, so ski in ski out. Rooms are suite style with full kitchen facilities. We stop & buy groceries & booze in Virginia, on the way down & typically do 3-4 night stays. Last year we spent 16 days there, over the winter. Beautiful covered in snow &/or 2 great golf courses to play in the summer, if I ever stop fishing !! 'Bout a 4-5 hour jaunt for us, depending on weather conditions &/or if I get the rubber glove treatment by your border patrol.

Nice Dave. I like my 16'. Whens the chicken buck party starting. Sitting in deer stand now waiting for this doe to come closer.
It is a silly fish that is caught twice with the same bait!

Dave, that truck is very similar to mine. Is that an Ecoboost? I simply love that motor. It has it all, great mileage (22 on the freeway, 24+ on highway, and 18ish in town), fantastic acceleration, and great towing power. Plenty of creature comforts too. Look out for speeding tickets though, cuz if feels like you are driving about 45 and you look down and it says 70! I was pulling a 16' enclosed trailer out hunting to ND and was passing a semi on the freeway at about 75 mph. He started swerving all over so I hammered it and it put you right back in your seat as it took off like Tzone after a glazed donut!

Hey Joe, I would use that new gun instead of a knife. You have much better range with the gun! Running down a deer to stab them is harder than it looks!
