Considering stepping up to an electronic scale after 40 years on a beam-type scale.
What do I need to know?
thanks,
Okie John
If Montana had a standing army, a 270 Win with Federal Blue Box 130's would be the standard issue.

Be prepared for 'negatives' from some. Regardless of subject - round here you'll always get the nay sayers.
I don't remember how many yrs it's been since I bought my first elec. scale. It was a Pact II and it worked reliably for many yrs TILL it began to give erratic readings. I PROMPTLY replaced it with another electronic scale.
They'll come will 1 or 2 check weights for set up and 'checking'. I don't have any special rules, instructions other than have it setting somewhere that nothing bumps/knocks it around. IF it should get bumped it's a good thing to use the check weight to verify.
I have my RCBS balance beam close by and I can double check the E S if I have any ???
What I like and WHY I went to an E S is the digital readout. It's much easier --- QUICKER -- to read.
Good Luck

Love my RCBS Chargemaster over the Lyman DPS II I had! Ultimately they will break on you over use and many manufactures will offer to sell you a new one for half price. If I get 5-10 years of decent loads from one, I'm happy. They can last longer but I handle mine very delicately and keep it from vibration, drafts, lights, ect. Static build up occurs so I wipe it down per manufacture recommendation. I'm on my 3rd electronic scale but have loaded thousands of rounds on them! I also purchased a Redding Powder Measure and will get that up and running one of these days. I also am tempted to get a balance beam scale for a backup, just in case so if you have any recommendations, please let me know. Good luck.

Count me among those who say it's not a step up. Handy yes for sorting cast bullets or brass but no advantages for weighing powder. Watch setup and check tare often.

I've owned three different electronic scales and have had issues with all of them, I didn't like the need to frequently recalibrate during a loading session. I've gone back to a beam scale too.

Don't buy a Lyman electronic scale for loading unless you want to wear your gun on your face.
