Yeah, and its always YMMV, I enjoy tinkering IE trouble shooting ARs... those are fun things for me. Not so much for others I get that but I forget that in comments often.
No denying, if you spend money on a known, the odds are always higher of working and accuracy.
OTOH you can get there other ways as I constantly say.
But then again I know whats important in an AR for match shooting, where I have to spend money and where I can get by with cheap...
We all have our nuts moments. I may have more of them than anyone else over here on 24 hour...

PS, had a tube once, that shot bullets down to 52 bthps, 7 Krieger. Forgot my ammo once at an important match.. buddy loaned me 64? bergers.... I shot22 of them offhand at 200, every last one was a blue puff. But the 52s were fine when I got home..... it was a jacket thing and berger must have had a few reports as when I called them, they were already working on it, and sent me new ones to try with new jackets, and all was good....

i have a savage 99 250 with a 14 twist. 85's and 90's shoot fine. above that to say 117's i can get some to shoot and others keyhole. if i can find heavies with a long bearing surface they will shoot. them with long taper to the ogive won't. my experience with .224's is limited .

Range Report: I mounted a 3 to 9 Burris fullfield II on my new AR and went to the range today. At 100 yards I got some decent groups.
Federal gold medal match 69 sierra matchking HPBT shot like crap, 3.5" groups.
Federal American Eagle Red box 50 gr HP, 1.2" groups.
Generic 55 gr spitzer (don't know the ammo brand, were given to me), 1.4" groups.
Winchester 55 gr power points, 0.9" groups
This was a average of three groups per ammo and were three shot per group.
I do want a free float forend because this AR shot better when the front rest was on the bags close to the receiver. Check the pin that holds the trigger guard in place. Dave

Did not know you guys had committed after I reported how it shot, it now has a free float forearm, 4# trigger and the receiver was lapped to make positive contact to the barrel. I did not try the Federal gold medal match 69 sierra matchking HPBT (left them on my bench) but it still liked the Winchester 55 gr power points and shot them the same, 0.9" for 3 shots at 100 yards and it now shoots Federal American Eagle Red box 50 gr HP the best, it went from 1.2" 3 shoot groups to 0.7" 3 shoot groups! And I am thinking I should check the twist like many of y'all have said Also these things are fun to shoot, I did not think I would like it this much

seeing it produces sub inch groups with lihgt bullets.... I"m betting its not a scope issue. I agree. Ive had good luck with the FFII. sounds more like a barrel/twist issue..
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

You need to shoot 10 shots per group. 3 shot groups mean nothing. Try 10 of the 69 MK,s and 10 of the 55's
