The 243 has a history of pressure spikes. Does changing to AI improve this behavior?

Yes. IME it will also reduce throat erosion a bit - not enough to get real excited about but it does help.
And it definitely reduces the need for trimming. I finally retired a batch of cases after 25 firings. They were trimmed on their 2nd firing to a nominal 2.035" and never needed trimming after that. When I retired them most were in the 2.038-2.040" range.
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!
