270 WSM especially if looking for a light weight deer rifle. Recoil is painful with a light weight 7mag shooting the heavier bullets necessary to see the ballistic gains... Short action saves the weight and medium to lighter bullets in 270 WSM save on recoil. Just my 2 cents.

Short Action = 4 oz. wow

Just pointing out that debating terminal performance on deer between the .270WSM and 7RM is silly. The .243 does the job great, so choosing between those would come down to rifles in question, bullet and brass availability, and personal preference. I'd be full-fledged in 7RM mode, but not because of some imaginary terminal performance gain. In fact, years ago I stopped using my 7Mag's on deer once I realized how well the .243 works.

My guess is that 95% of the shooters out there don't shoot well enough that the minute difference in drop/drift on all of the loads discussed aren't minimized by human error - and just to be clear I count myself among the 95. As I get older/more experienced I've also noticed that the animals care not what bullet they are hit with or what it originated from - if they are hit in the right place they die.

Shoot what you like while still have the right to do so!

And take it further if the 270 shoots 1/2 MOA and the 7RM shoots MOA.

But everyone knows that all the rifles around the 'fire shoot 1/10 MOA and the wind always blows 90 degrees at 10 mph. And all the scopes track perfectly and everyone's dope is perfect and every shot is made from a perfect rest.

The choice between the two is clearly obvious.

And don't forget they do it "all day long".

Everything can die with a 75 Amax but a .277 bounces off. Not to mention that they share almost the exact same flight characteristics. As in wind. As in you can play with a lot of wind with a lot off 75's and remember that schit when you're pulling the trigger on meat with certain 270 loads.

Of THE TWO CHOICES, for a lightweight deer hunting rifle I would pick the 270wsm. You can have a lighter platform right off the bat with a shorter action to allow for perhaps a heavier scope while keeping the weight down, not to mention I think resale would be easier with the 270wsm.

Not sure why some people have to ridicule the question, maybe after they kill their first big buck they'll find it easier to answer the questions without the insults..... Maybe.

I have no doubt it was. I know Canada has big bucks, actually killing them is another question.

I had a good 270wsm. Never did make much sense to me as it didn't have much over a standard 270, and had mag box issues to deal with.

So, you could pretty much give me anything over a 270wsm.

Had a 270 WSM Montana and liked it, then got a 7 RM and liked it more, and now a vanilla 270 Montana and like it the most.

It'll all work out one day.

85 TSX, 80 TTSX, and 105 AM and HPBT have worked great for me on a number of big deer.
