This is a Remington 700 set-up as a single shot, and chambered in 6.5X444 Improved.

To make the 6.5X444, start with new 444 Marlin brass, neck it down to 6.5, fire-form and you're good to go...

[Linked Image]

For comparison, the 260 Remington is on the left, 6.5X444 Improved in the middle and then the 6.5-06 on the right...

Case capacity between the three cartridges with a small stick powder is as follows:

260 Remington - 46.0 gr...

6.5X444 Improved - 53.0 gr...

6.5-06 - 58.0 gr...

So why build such an odd cartridge in a Remington bolt action? At least for now, we still have the FREEDOM to do what we want!

Looks like it might be pretty close in volume to the 6.5x55 Swede.

Looks suspiciously like a 6.5 JDJ... grin
I'd love to get the range report!

I was thinking it looks a boat load like the size of my 6.5 x 57.....the AI version should have about the same case capacity if the 6.5 x 57 doesn't....

It is pretty close to the 6.5X55.

Don't know anything about a 256 Newton.

The 6.5 JDJ is based off the 225 Winchester case.

More like a 260 Remington Improved on steroids!

The 6.5-284 has greater powder capacity.

Oddly I had a reamer made for something very similar about 5 years ago. I called it the 6.5 Clark. I actually planned to use it as a 35 cal, but ordered the reamer with a 6.5 pilot. This way I can bush it up to anything larger.
Mine used the standard shoulder angle for a 260 (or 7-08/308/358...) but the shoulder was moved forward only giving a .250" long neck. I did this so I wouldn't have to deal with custom dies. Base size with a 444 FL die with guts removed. Neck size (and shoulder bump if needed) with a 260 dies. Seat with 260 dies.
I ordered the reamer for use in a Contender, but never got around to using the reamer. I thought maybe someday a #1 or drillings that needed a some attention would get the reamer used on it. Nothing so far.
I don't have a desire to have a bolt gun with a rimmed case, but if it works - why mess with it!

Looks like you just recreated the 6.5x57R and improved it a little, it's been around for over 100 years.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Why?!?! Just to have something a little bit different, and something that not everyone else out there has.

This would be slick in a Ruger Number One.

I have put several of these in a Ruger #1, and in everything from 6mm up to .35 caliber.

I have found the Ruger #1 does better when set up with a rimmed cartridge, and rounds that I have that are based off of cases like the 30-30, 444 Marlin and 9.3X74R are all very accurate from these types of falling blocks.
