Well, I spent an hour down in the gun room yesterday sorting through clothes and gear getting ready for this weekend. It's on boys. My BIL and I will be heading up to the Emily area once again. I drew a doe tag this year and hope to put it to good use. Hoping to find a couple really dumb grouse Friday afternoon to go with a big pot of chili for Friday night's meal. Hard at it Saturday.

The weather's going to warm from the sounds of things. Best wishes to all the Minnesota boys. I'm sure the Chickenbuckers will acquit themselves very well. Really hoping to hear that T-Zone's kids fill some tags too.

Main thing is, everyone have a good time, create some new memories, and please come home safe.

Good luck guys.

Ms. Kennedy has a swim meet on saturday for state sectionals and will not be attending the opener. She's kinda bummed and kinda excited for the meet. She got a little taste of Chickenbuck though and wants to go back!

Me and Mini will be headed up Friday Morning!

I stopped and grabbed the SD cards from the WI hunting area and there is a VERY excited 11 year old by. Spread over a mile, there are 10 different bucks on the trail cams. Every thing from a few spikes to a beautiful 10. There are several 8's, several 6's, a 5, and a 7 too. I'll narrow down the pics and get them posted when I can.

There was a bit of sign the rut's on. Several rubs, a decent scrape started, and a few pics of bucks after does.

It's not going to freeze up either. Sounds like a good project for labor day next year.

No deer down dis weekend, in fact, no daylight deer sighted !

3 Hunters, 3 stands, 2 days @ 6 hours each per day.

Did eat very well however !

Sure as heck going to try, Paul. Taking out the EG 300 Savage on Saturday with Stith-mounted Weaver K4. If I can't see the dot in the scope at first/last light, I'm also bringing my Contender with it's .375 Win barrel with a Nikon 2X EER that will let me see him. grin

I really do want to nail one with a 99. If not with the EG .300, might switch to a 1920 99F .303 Savage with a Lyman 57SA tang mounted peep for Sunday.

Took the daughter out rooster hunting and as luck would have it, on my favorite willow-lined ditch, the rooster came out the wrong side and I had to shoot it. I had just told her she gets the east side because 98% of the birds go that way. I jinxed it. She did get a shot later, but missed.

Then we shot the slug guns. She shot at 50 and was on either side of the bullseye then at 100, she touched the bullseye. She was super excited and I said put that thing away! You are ready. Confidence is high, which is a great way to end a shooting session.

On the way there, I saw a huge buck at 230 in the afternoon. Huge body, at least 10 points. Hey Gophergunner, I saw him on one of the spots I told you about! He was on a Waterfowl Production Area open to public hunting.

Speaking of football, we went to the Alexandria playoff game and what a game it was! Played Moorhead and we were without our best RB for most of the game. We also have a stud QB and it went into double overtime before we finally pulled out a really wild game 37-30 (which is a low score for this team). Next game is Friday night at St. Johns Univ against Sartell. If we get that RB back, we will be tough to beat. Man, I didnt really plan to go to a football game on Friday night before deer hunting......but good high school football is fun to watch!

Been gone fer 2 weeks. Sure have missed alot. Congrats on all the animals that have been taken so far.

Went bowhuntng in Nebraska i passed up 2 does, buddies got 2 small 8 pointers. Just got back into bow hunting again was a great time. Then straight from Nebraska went up to the cabin with the kids for MEA. Kids and grandpa had a blast. Then was off to Vegas. Momma had a conference there so i tagged along. Now scrambling at home to get stuff ready for opener.

So good luck to all out there this year, be safe and shoot the thrity point buck. Ya there eh!!!!!

B-man, I'm definitely planning on coming up your way for muzzleloader season. Gotta think it should be good hunting. Was that the waterfowl area I walked along the main road? Sure looked good back then.

took my little man to fill some antelope doe tags this weekend. ended up getting two and filling the last of my tags. this one was 382 yards and the shot was a little angled so I had to do a finishing head shot at 412 when she laid down. second one was 416 and she went 5 feet. boy thought I was the man with how far they were. he LOVED the trip and kept up with us over the 7 miles we walked that day. I was impressed with him!
