Some years ago my father-in-law gave me an Stevens 425 lever action rifle in .25 Remington. I didn't know much about them other than ammo wasn't easy to find and I thought, "Stevens" - ho hum. Fast forward many years later and I found out these rifles attract quite a pretty penny from collectors and that that Grafs is carrying a run of 117g Hornady RN loads for it so my interest was renewed and I decided to buy a few boxes.

This weekend I plan to hunt with it. Hopefully I'll put a couple of doe in the freezer with the rifle. My wife's father believes the gun was bought in 1912 or 1913 by his Grandfather - who passed away in 1918. He thinks the last time the gun was shot was around 1955, when he was a young boy.

So, here we are almost 100y after the last time this old gun went to the woods and I plan to hunt with it. Hopefully, I'll give you guys an update at the end of the weekend with a success story.

Awesome! I'd buy some more of that ammo if I were you. That rifle is in fantastic shape.

Haha, well you know better than to think I'm going to take that. The ballistics on this thing aren't exactly in the "wow" territory but I'm sure that with the bullet put in the boiler room I'm going to be getting out my "dragging shoes"

Beautiful piece of history. Please keep me in mind if you ever deside to sell it. (No. I am not a collector)

Cool - good luck with it. I took a cull buck with a 1907 Winchester last year, and it was most satisfying smile

Gotta admit knowing nothing at all about this cartridge so I looked it up, That has to be an absolute hoot to shoot. I am sure it is fine for deer but am wondering what kind of penetration one might expect from a 117 gr round nose at those speeds. I have a B92 44mag lever action that shoots through deer but it uses twice as heavy a bullet at similar speeds. It hasn't been great on hogs but am thinking part of that is the bullet I am using. Rambling.....

Very very cool rig and really great to see you using it.

It's past time for a new generation of tales to go along with that gun.
Enjoy and good luck!
