I know this comes up frequently on here but has anyone else gotten one of the cheap 300 or 338 RCM's on CDNN? I know brass and loaded ammo are rare but man, I like Hawkeyes and that price.

Even though I had a 338 RCM and sold it, its still tempting. I just wish they would have made a stainless lam version in 338. Id buy.

How were the shooting and handling characteristics?

Seems like such a good ground for hunting in the South and East.

Shot decent. Good enogh for its purposes certainly. Handy gun. A little short on LOP but not a major thing. Only sold it cause something else came along I decided needed the funds more than that one. If it was stainless Id still have it. Would be a perfect bad weather beater gun if SS.

Bought 2 of the 20" stainless 338s for a bear hunt. Loaded 185 TTSX in front of WW748 and they both shot right at or slightly under one inch 3 shot groups at 100. The short overall length made them handy for getting in and out of the boats and they carry well.

Been tempted to buy one in 300 RCM just because.......

I owned a 338 RCM for about three months. Picked it up NIB but I could never find brass or ammo. Ended up selling due to the lack of components. That said, I really liked the rifle (blued, 22" barrel, no iron sights) and had every intention of keeping and using it. Became discouraged over the brass and ammo situation so off it went.

However, I just looked at CDNN and I am very tempted at having another go with a 338 RCM. Those are some incredible prices and it looks like the brass availability has improved.

Got a Blue and wood LH and a RH SS in 20" 338 RCM love them both very accurate. Bought plenty of brass and loaded rounds. Settled on one load for both 225 GR NP about 2640 FPS.

I have and like the .338 RCM; it is essentially a .338-06 that is commercially available. I don't see much point to the .300 RCM because there are a lot of other .30 caliber cartridges that do about the same thing. I'd just get a .30-06.

Looked at them also but couldn't see the 338 version doing anything my Whelen couldn't do.

Have a custom LH Whelen bought the LH 338 RCM in LH cause where else can you find a LH 338 with sights for less money.

If I had any need for a 338 at all, I would have ordered this one a long time ago. Ruger American prices for an heirloom quality rifle.

I did a few weeks ago in 338 RCM, wood blue model.

I'm very impressed with it. I really like the 13" LOP and 20" barrel that it comes with.
I'm 6'1", even when wearing a pack the rifle comes up to the shoulder quick and solid.

Brass is no problem to get for it.

I'm seriously thinking of getting the 30 RCM as well.
For those who say just get a 30-06 are really missing it. This is a compact package that is equal to a 06 Ackley.

These Rugers are simply rugged and accurate.

A LOT of rifle for 500 bucks.

It is hard to find a .338 Fed, but you can load down the RCM if you want. . .

That's where I'm at with this. Deliberating between an RCM project or a ready-to-go Nosler M48.

PaulB,

I saw that 338 RCM Hawkeye too. What a deal for only $399!! If I didn't already have a 338 RCM I would have ordered it.

My 338 RCM has a 22" lilja in an old Ruger tang safety M77. Rick Bin. sold me one of the last available McMillan Ultralight stocks. It shoots the 225 accubond @ 2775 with 61 gr of RL-17 VERY accurately. It has taken three cow elk to date, more if I could ever get an Az tag.

I have always wanted a 338 of some kind, but recoil has always kind of scared me out of it. This seems like the perfect way to do it.
