A 5 pointer made the colossal mistake of stopping 25 yards from Lauren! First buck is in the books!!!

Funny story....that buck died within 5 yards of the trail I took through the swamp to get to her. So I saw it on the way in. of course I didnt tell her I knew where it was and made her track the blood trail the whole way. And the whole time I was peppering her with questions....did it look like you hit it? Was it limping? Did the shot feel good? When I told her I knew where it was from the beginning you should have seen the look on her face! Priceless.

Total for the weekend was 3 deer. Two 8 pointers and a 5 pointer.

Lauren will be in the local paper with her first buck!

Congrats to those that got deers.! I shot an 8 point yesterday at 8:10 am.

It was so warm, I had to quarter it and put it in a cooler right away. Heading out to the garage to process now.

That's awesome Berettaman. Any pics of the kid with her first buck?

Congrats to all of you who got deer. I got an 8-pointer and had that sucker quartered and in a cooler ASAP.

I missed the leisure of processing at home in the shop, but it was too damn warm to screw around with it.

Looking good Goalie.
Wife did the long drive back home today with her buck and will be driving back tomorrow.

Pictures when I get good enough internet service. Camp is in a very limited area and the hot spot just works well enough for the written word, pictures not so much.

Good job Goalie. If you need a hand cutting, give me a holler. I'd gladly help. Nice pictures, but was there something else in the fridge besides the beer?

Congrats to all, very cool that some success was experienced even in these crazy warm temps.

This is the first time we have not fired the wood stove at camp during deer season. We didn't fire it once! That's crazy!

I'm honestly hoping for some cooler temps, at the very least it would be nice to see lows in the 30's overnight to cool any hanging deer.

My little meat buck is quartered and froze down, I will try to process this week.

Here are the pictures!

Of mostest interest....Lauren's Deer!! 25 yards, perfect heart shot with a doe standing at 10 yards and another 5 feet from her stand! Ran about 100 yards at the most. She field dressed it all by herself because my dad told her if she did, he would bring her to the Dairy Queen. The Dairy Queen is powerful magic.

My buck was sure a challenge to shoot. He came running behind me chasing 2 does at a full run. As he went through my shooting lane, I timed it and sizzled a slug his way. I knew I hit him but had no clue how hard. Pretty soon here he comes back the exact opposite way and I timed it again let him have it. I threw another at him through the brush and he went down. He was still trying to get up so I tried to shoot him some more and it turned into a rodeo trying to shoot him through way WAY too much brush. But the 2 shots in my lane did the trick (the second was a double lung) and he was soon dead.

Stayed up till midnite processing 2 deer last night.Temps were low 60s,high 50s,no time to age properly this year.
I doubt the meat ever got cooler than 50 degrees before going in the freezer.

Nice work! Congrats Lauren!! I hope many more come in your direction!

I like that you didn't tell her you knew where it was. I would do the same thing.

I'm getting more enjoyment out of seeing the kids connect that I'll ever get from filling a tag myself. Congrats to all the dads, moms and kids that got the job done the last few days. The weather up here sucked, but it sure sounds like some great memories were forged. If I never shoot another deer, I will remember these great stories and smile. Great job folks.
