We finally did it, Three bulls. It's been a long season, but we found them last Wen. My boy and I hiked in about an hour in the dark to get back where we figured the elk should be calmed down from the weekend pressure. Sure enough, just at shooting light about 20 head were milling around near the trees. A couple of rag six's and a few spikes with the cows. We each shot a bull thru the lungs and they all trotted down next to the trail. Not wanting to pack them to far, we put them down right there. They fell 30yds apart. After we dressed and split them in half, we hung them up in the shade and let them cool for the night.
Went in the next day with a friend and his horses and were back at the truck by early afternoon.
The next morning son #2 and my grandson hiked an hour and a half back there to find him one. Yep, daylight found us on top of the ridge waiting for a bull to clear and give a broad side shot. 120yds down hill. They just ran about 10yds at the shot and stopped. They didn't know where we were. This boy slowly sank to the ground and laid over. After a few phone calls, we skun, quartered, and packed the parts to the top of the hill. When my other boy showed up with pack frames. {It's good to have strong help}. We took that one out on our backs. Back at the truck about 2;30. Freezer's full.
If you hunt with your kids. You should not have to hunt for your kids.

We quartered all three. Left the hide on the first two with the horses. The last one was a bit bigger and down a steep slope.
