Got one scopeless rifle and I'm really wanting to put an illuminated reticle on it. I want to spend $600 or less. The 3 I like the most are the fire dot duplex and the duplex illuminated and the fine duplex illuminated. I'm curious about the dot and what size it is...1min,2min etc. I also would like to know of any other make of scope w/an illuminated dot-cross hair. Please none of the wild reticles w/all the dots and hash lines. Any help or pictures would be greatly appreciated. powdr

If I bought one today it would be this Kahles, often called the finest 1" hunting scope in the world. It is known for it's low light performance, which is why I would need an illuminated reticle in the first place. http://www.scopelist.com/kahles-kxi-35-10x50-illuminated-4d.aspx

Zeiss Conquest DL illuminated reticle 3-12x50
Meopta r2 or R1 with a 4c or 4K reticle
S&B Zenith lashdot which has the best of all the 30mm IMHO

I think you guys all missed the "less than $600" part.
I am continually astounded at how quickly people make up their minds on little evidence or none at all. Jack O'Connor

I have a VXR 2-7 with a duplex. The fire dot is about 1 MOA at 100 yards on 7 power.

Do you like it Scott? Does the whole duplex light up or just the dot? powdr

Have you given thought to tritium illuminated rather than electronic? I really like my Trijicon, good glass. I'm not sure what the dot looks like, I have the triangle post and like it enough. Also, not sure if you're hunting at night or just for the golden hours?

Do you like it Scott? Does the whole duplex light up or just the dot? powdr Not Scott, but I have handled this scope. The Dot lights up, not the whole retile. You have a button on the side that adjusts the intensity, pretty neat set up. Leupold lifetime warranty shrinks to 2 yrs. on electronics. VX-R glass isn't as good as VX-6, about like a VX-2. The new VX-2 is pretty close to the VX-3, IMO. VX-R Firedot is a nice package for the price. With Firedot, I prefer the Duplex, to me the #4 is a bit coarse for longer range shooting. With the Firedot, I don't think you need a #4. I had a VX-6 1-6x24 #4 Firedot, sold it. If I get another, it will be a Duplex DF

I agree with everything Dirtfarmer said especially about the #4. I have a 1.25-4 Firedot with a #4 and it's too thick. The duplex is much better.
I also recently purchased a VXR Patrol 3-9 for a new Tikka CTR.

Does the duplex have a dot in it or is it just the reticle itself. I noticed they have a fine fire duplex also. That looked the best to me but it might be too thin. Thanks guys, powdr

The Patrol is a tactical VXR. It has a Mil reticle and Mil target knobs.

Trijicon Accupoint 3-9x40 Green Dot! I have one on my Weatherby Custom Shop 270 Roy and another on my Sako Tecomate 300 WSM. No batteries to have fool with. I got both of mine here in great shape Faint ring marks no big deal. And I saved $$$! I sent both in at different times to be checked out by Factory techs and both were refilled tritium for no charge!

I've handled the Trijicon, don't have one. I've read the ER can be rather short on those scopes, compared to a Leupold. I didn't pay attention to the ER. What's you take on that statement? DF

For under $300, I bought a Vortex Crossfire 1-4x with v-brite illuminated reticle, duplex w/MOA dot suspended in fine wires. Works a treat. Downside: it's a 30mm tube which adds to the bulk of the scope, but still filled my requirement for a small-ish scope to mount on my AR. Optics are bright and sharp edge-to-edge, but beyond that I'm ignorant as I'm not really a scope guy. I'm very pleased with it.

Thanks, AMRA.
I've seen those scopes on DG rifles, so their ER can't be that bad.
The glass looked pretty good to me when I checked one out, have read mixed reviews.
Where on a scale from VX-2 to VX-6 would the Trijicon fall?
