Picked up my "Budget Build" from the smith yesterday afternoon, and I have to say that it turned out awesome! If it shoots half as good as it looks, it will be a killing machine!

280 AI built by Sum Gy Custom Firearms, in Pattison, MS

Blueprinted 1964 Rem 700 action w/ PTG One Piece Bolt
27 1/4" Fluted Brux #4 8 twist Barrel
Jewell Trigger
McMillan Hunter Stock
Seekins Rail and Rings
Leupold 3-18x44 VX-6

It's throated for the Hornady 162 gr ELD-X.

9lbs 12 ozs with scope.

I agree 100%, but I am all in on this build, including the optic for $1300 and a bit of time. I attribute it to my wheeling and dealing abilities. grin

I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects

I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....

I agree, that's actually a pretty sweet build.

My 280 AI is built on a Remington action. I just sent it to Pac-Nor, and they put a new barrel on it. A 24" #3, also with a 1:8 twist.

Mine was throated for the 168 Berger VLD Hunting, but I still can't get those things to shoot. But with the 1:8 I am getting the 168 Grain Barns LRX to stabilize, and they are shooting very well. I'm using it on a cow elk hunt in January.

Great scope also, I'm only running a VX3 3.5-10. If you have a 'budget' build, I must have the Walmart build.

Did you want it to be that heavy?

I'm right about where I wanted to be. In calculating parts, I had figured the final build to be 10 1/4 - 10 1/2 lbs.
