I have a pre-war Winchester model 70 standard rifle in .257 Roberts and a Balvar 2.5x8 scope for it. What I need to mount the scope is a Baush & Lomb or Kuharsky Bros. mount. I would prefer a one piece mount with the spring clamps, but would probably be satisfied with a two piece mount. I know somebody out there has what I need, to resurrect this nice old rifle.

The period correct B&L bases use the plunger tube solid rings for the straight tube 2X,4x or variable 2 1/2-4 Balvar.Rear base uses the receiver sight holes on the rear ring;front base uses factory holes on front receiver ring. There were no top holes on the rear receiver ring. You may be able to use later plunger tube split rings with the large objective Balvar 8 but it may not clear the bbl.

A previous owner had the receiver front ring and barrel tapped and mounts installed for a long target scope-either B&L or Unertl. The mount bases are still on the rifle (but no scope came with it), as well as a Lyman receiver peep sight. Since the rifle has already been "molested", I want to use the later mount[s] for the 1960s scope. I realize the aft end will need to be tapped for that.

Will the B&L bases work on both Prewar and Postwar? If so, I have some. Thanks.

Front bridge on the gun was factory d&t. Have you considered a Stith mount?, no need to d&t the rear bridge....

Also have 3 or 4 of the B&L 2.5x8's and other bases/rings for Rem, mauser and maybe others.

I have the correct B&L bases and rings for your rifle, but I don't have screws for the bases. The rear base mounts via the factory d&t receiver sight holes.
Sent a PM that you haven't read.

I'm still learning it seems.
The two piece B&L (rear side mount) or Stith look to be the least invasive options. Whichever, I need base and rings/clamps to fit the Balvar 2.5x8 scope I already have. I can source screws separately if I need to.

I think I have either. The one piece B&L is off a pre 64 for sure and I think I have all the screws. I also have the Stith mount off of a Belgium Mauser. Not sure about the screw spacing but can compare.
Let me know if you need pictures.

Another problem! The pre-war safety might not clear a low mounted scope.Only solution is a Tilden safety.Rare option.Cannot find one for myself. Good luck.
