Dish is the lesser of two evils.
Both are a dying business with the cable offerings now available.

Sounds like both companies are about equally despised. Last year, I talked Direct into a $30 per month discount for 12 months. If I can get that again, I'll probably stay with them. If not I will probably go with Dish and lock in a two year price. It is tempting to get rid of satellite and put up an antenna but I sure like being able to easily record shows and zip through commercials. We don't spend much on entertainment except for the tv service and our internet (Century Link) is so bad that streaming is out of the question.
Anybody have Hughes Net satellite internet? If so what do you think of it? I've read so many negative reviews that I'm afraid to try it.
Thanks for all the comments.

Had Dish, asked for free upgrades that newbies get, told NO. Said ok, ordered DTV. Once set up called Dish, told them 'stuff' was on porch, come get it. "What can we do to keep you?" Too late, I'm watching DTV as we speak, come get your stuff off my porch please. Had no complaints otherwise.

About nine years now with Hughes. We're remote--no cell--no alternatives other than 24kb dial-up. Hughes does the job for us with a small home-base business... 10 gig-a-month plan. No failures to speak of and it is solid in poor weather. They get beat on with reviews, but they have worked fine for us. Expectations are everything, know what to expect with your bandwidth and you'll be happy with them.

Same exact thing happened to us. That's why we went to Direct. Since then, they have spent many $$ sending stuff to get me back. I don't see the wisdom in losing customers and having to fight to get them back. They were charging us for HD, while it was free to new customers. Would not give us the same deals available to newbys.

Our only option was Hughes, we had them come get their stuff before the 30 day window ended that we were given to trial it. Lived in that house for 2 years before selling it, the entire time the only internet we used was as hotspots from our phones and the high cost associated with using lots of Data, which my wife needs for her job.

None of the above. Cut the cord.
I finally called Dish yesterday to put the final nail in the coffin. Been on suspend for almost a year. Until they devise a plan that has a shopping list of channels, I'm done. Every month, the sat and cable companies pay a little of your subscription money to CNN, Disney, ESPN, and other enemies of the Republic. I'm saving about $75 a month after you subtract the Netflix and DVD.com fees I'm paying, and I have more stuff to watch that's of interest to me than ever. I hooked up my old attic antenna and get DC and Baltimore channels just fine if there's anything there I want to watch. I also get a lot of stuff with my Amazon Prime account, and trust me, in my case anyway, Bezos is losing his ass on free shipping.
What fresh Hell is this?

Between the 30+ local channels available with a digital antenna, Netflix and Amazon prime, I haven't missed DirecTV/Dish for a little over a year. We decided to cut the cord and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
