Need suggestions for rebarreling a 1947 Win model 70. It was originally a 30-06, bbl cut to 20". I had it rebarreled 30 yrs to 25-06. the guy who did it, screwed it up, then died, but that's another story. I am going to put a new bbl on it, most likely going back with the 25-06 for a long range deer rifle. What are some suggestions for a new barrel supplier and/or gunsmith?
thanks
Charlie

My son has a SS Super Match Grade Pac-Nor Hunter weight barrel on a 700 that shoots phenomenally well. IIRC it is 5 groove, 9" twist, and in that little light rifle (faux Ti stock) it is never the weak link.
I just built a 25-284 on a Lilja barrel but cannot comment on how it shoots yet. PacNor has been outstanding for me in several different calibers and cartridges.
I have a Hart barreled Mauser in 25-06 also and it shoots more than good enough but not in the league of the 700.
Mark Begich, Joaquin Jackson, and Heller resistance... Three huge reasons to worry about the NRA.

Kreiger barrel should be something you consider strongly.
As for a gunsmith, try Redneck on this site.

Good M70 gunsmiths are:
Redneck as mentioned
Mark Penrod in North Manchester IN
Randy Gregory in Medford WI
For me the barrel would be Bartlein or Kreiger

Talk to your gunsmith and go with his recommendations, IMHO. Hard to buy a bad barrel these days, but gunsmiths usually have their favorites depending on budget, material and other factors you should discuss with him.
Where you are located may/may not make a difference in who you pick.

For myself I would go with a 9" twist, especially if I planned to run the heavier bullets, which I would.

I have used Douglas for decades, very happy with them. I would consider stainless and get the air gauged option.
