I have a Ruger American Standard in 243 cal.I am thinking about getting into shooting with a suppressor.Does the Standard Rifle barrel have enough steel to be threaded?

If it's bigger than 1/2" diameter on the muzzle, it should be OK to thread 1/2-28 on a 6mm. Any larger bore and I would want to use a 5/8" thread.

1/2" muzzle is not adequate for a 1/2"-28 suppressor mount.




OP - you need to account for a shoulder for the suppressor to square up against. Absolute bare minimum is ~.030" per side, more is highly recommended.

What is the muzzle diameter on your rifle? I have an American, but it's the Predator model so the measurements from mine won't help you.

It is if the suppressor mount contacts the face of the barrel. No need for an external shoulder. Much like some Mauser barrels contact the inner ring, not the receiver face. It would just as well and would have similar surface area in contact. Anyway, I was mostly commenting on the diameter of the thread required.

Yes, indexing on the muzzle can work fine, but what centerfire rifle suppressor do you know of that does that?

Easy enough if he's having a muzzle device made for it, but otherwise a shoulder needs to be considered for suppressor mounting.

.575 is the measurement of the barrel

Man, that's really marginal for threading to 1/2-28 and to still have a decent shoulder, accounting for a little misalignment between bore and OD, you'll have ~ .035" shoulder. It can be done, but the threads need to be a close fit to that suppressor, meaning whoever threads it should have your suppressor in hand to fit it.

It might be worth thinking about cutting the barrel a few inches shorter where the barrel OD is a little larger.
