They're flat out lying. The EC wasn't created to insure that the president is qualified. It was because the small states weren't going to sign on to it out of fear of being overwhelmed by NY and MA, the largest states at the time. Creating the senate and the EC got them to come in on it.
It's called the Great Compromise, or sometimes the Compromise of 1787 or the Connecticut Compromise. It's every bit as relevant today as it was then when you consider the size of CA compared to all the mountain states combined.

I have researched the EC in depth over these many years and never ever read anything about qualified candidate. As RC posted it was a compromise and, hotly contested at the time.
Donald Trump was elected through a vetting process of an established party. He beat out a large contingent of established qualified politicians in a primary system.
He didn't just appear as a 3rd party or renegade candidate, nor did he end up in this position thru some backroom deal or strongarm tactics. All states were represented and knowledgeable about who he was as a candidate.
What he has proposed as a platform is well within the boundaries of American discourse.
Therefore pushing the electoral college to reject him on grounds he isn't qualified to be president is irrelevant.
This whole approach is particularly appalling given the demand that they placed on Trump to honor the election results and how apeshit they went when he said he'd have to see.
