toad, makes sense. That's the one thing I don't like about the On X Hunt app; the tiles are very small and detailed, so it takes a lot of memory (and time) to save all the tiles needed to cover one unit. A whole state would be impossible.

I go back and forth between the two, like if i forget to download the maps Im screwed.

I'm still using a DeLorme PN20. I'm thinking about a Garmin too. As far as people using phones for GPS I'm not into that. I prefer something that I can change the batteries on. I also like a standalone GPS because because they are more rugged and waterproof. When I get around to getting a smartphone I wouldn't take it out in the woods anyway.
