I have a B78 45-70 with an octagon bbl that I want to mount a scope on. Will bases for a Browning 1885 work?

I suggest you ask Browning. They used to sell mounts, might still.

Years ago, I purchased the "right" mounts for my Low Wall from a mount manufacturer's chart, and they didn't fit. The next set, from Burris I believe, did.

I believe that Burris made the Browning marked bases for the B78 and you might call them to see what part numbers you need to try and find.

Browning 1885 7mmRM made 1990

To put mounts on the 1885 tapered octagon barrel I put around bottom Weaver mount in the rear, a flat bottom Weaver in the front with Aluminum shims made from a licence plate.

Browning B-78 25-06 made in 1994.

The B-78 came with factory rings.
