I am looking for a older style Remington 700 308 stainless and synthetic, not the new SPS. I want the stock with the stamped checkering, I have found 0 of them. Does anyone know if they even made this model?

Yes. I used to own one in 300 Win mag. It was a nice rifle, and finished better than an SPS.

I never thought much of a 308 until I bought a cheap Savage hog hunter for my suppressor. I was amazed how well the Savage shot and how well the 308 kills deer and pigs.

The theory goes that, up to 180 grain bullet weights, the .308 Win can do about anything the .30-06 Springfield can do, just not quite as far.

The next gun I get is going to be a Remington 700 in .308
Heavy barrel but I don't see myself paying a premium for an older model.
have you paid your dues, can you moan the blues, can you bend them guitar strings

I pulled my "old" 308 out of the safe and shook the dust off last week. I had ordered Lapua cases, 155 Scenar's & some Varget recently. I took the advice of many others here and with that load recipe put the first three shots into .360.
The 308 was my first rifle ever in 1977 when I turned 18. Mine happens to be a C series action and shoots very, very well. It is going Pronghorn whacking in September.
By the way, in case you missed it, Jeremiah was a bullfrog.

Minivans, pickups, 223s, and 308s--just get the job done.

Casey Actually Remington was putting stainless steel barrels in the 700 model in the very early 1970's. The rifles that had stainless barrels were the ones chambered in 300 Win Mag and 7mm Mag and maybe a couple of others. Remington took extra effort to blue the stainless barrel because, at that time, they thought no one would buy a rifle with a natural color stainless on it.

The grainier finish of the SPS SS rifles actually cleans up pretty well with an inexpensive beadblasting. It won't be as bright, which suits me fine, but it'll be smoother. And the SPS stocks are a fair bit lighter as well. No flies on them for tupperware.
Now with even more aplomb
