1953 Yep the rifle is original has no sights but all blocks are present, I have been thinking about mounting a modern optic to see what it is capable of. Sitting on the rack right next to it was a national match probably 90% original condition no sights for her either by again all blocks present. I won't even tell you guys the price except to say I was told it had a bad bore and the price reflected it. I never looked at the bore until I brought it home and cleaned it the bore looks almost perfect to me. Sadly I have no provenance or information on the pair and the store employees do not want to share a name. I would really like to find the original sights and visit with the previous owner.

ctw, I have 3 cigar boxes of Redfield irons if you need any. WinPoor
I too took a chance on a 'bad bore, shot out gun' all it took was a military, strip to the metal cleaning and the gun shot some 1/2 inch groups, it was a 220 swift, std barrel gun. On your NM a fellow would be damn beat up to shoot it out! I did buy a gun out of the midwest that was cooked, someone got on a dog town and could not help themselves, the damn thing looked mint, dealer had no idea and made the gun good, I bought another from him.. good fellow

The 300 H&H is a good buy and I wouldn't hesitate a bit on it. You can find a front sight hood of E-Bay for $40-50 if you want one. It's a great cartridge as well.

WP rear peep sight for a M71 let me know.

Yup. He's stuck on his price, and I think he's going to end up keeping his rifle because I'm probably the biggest M70 fan on that other forum and I really would love to own one in .300 H&H (while practically everyone else there thinks they have to have a 6.5 Creedmoor in a sniper stock with a bigass boltknob and FFP scope), and I shore as hell ain't payin that much for it.

If it's original, it is worth several times that amount. What year?

Pre 64 check your PM's
Buy the Bull, I have a story on a Bull gun I haggled over a few hundred bucks, it was in 300 WinMag ( late 50's early 60's gun), not 300 H&H. Little did I know way back then (prob late 80's, Prob Randy Shuman ) very ,very few BULLS were mfg in 300 win mag ! 2 or 300 bucks would not have made squat in the big scheme of things now! the very best WinPoor

I think a .300 Win Mag would have to be '63. IIRC, they rolled out that round the year they dropped the Pre-64. I had a nice, near mint Pre-64 in .300 Win Mag, not a bull, just a std sporter. Probably one I shouldn't have traded... blush

Yep, I have one now Im going to sell, it matches Rules book as a late one, proof mark on top of receiver, alum floor-plate, mine had a pad added and it needed it! I have another uncut stock for it. Its a good shooter but I like my .264 win mag better.. very best WinPoor

I would have bought this the day the pics were viewed, then called pre64win for a correct front sight hood. smile

Nice rifle indeed, i wouldn't sell my standard 300 H&H for that price.

That's just it. I figured the seller was padding his price, which includes what I believe is a Vari-X II 2-7x33 and that $1500 would get the rifle sans scope. I offered a little under that to open, and the guy doesn't want to move. It's a nice rifle, but I'm not paying that much for it because I don't want it that bad. If he'd come back at me with $1500 I would have jumped, but he didn't and I didn't either.

This is what I thought too, and would with both boots jump on the combo for $1500.

I didn't find the site where it's listed. What is he asking for it now? I thought it was $1500 and that would be a good deal.

That's really not that bad but as I said I have two already. The scope isn't worth much IMHO and if I were interested I'd ask the seller to omit it in the deal. If he keeps it long enough he might come around. $1500 for that gun is a bargain IMHO.
