Just reading Davids book on 99's. In the part on .284s and sequential serial numbers (pg 94), I noticed my F in .284 has a ser. # of 1087xxx and a LBC of u indicating a DOB of 1967 . He stated he had a dl --1091424 (1966) and an e --1105344 (1965).That's approx.18,000 difference. That's 2 or 3 years production,I know numbers don't lie but that seems like a lot. The savage mystique?

Can you read the number in the LBC? Is it behind or in front of the U? The .284 rotor rifles were different in the way the rotor was handled. They might have assembled a group that just didn't sell as fast as expected. Or, just another "...never say "never" item.
Savage...never say "never". Rick...

I wonder if Savage didn't produce a big run of 284 receivers at once and then assemble them as needed. David
