270.
nothing against 7-08 but if you don't reload you can buy 270 anywhere and its probably 10 bucks cheaper.

All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

I keep looking at the factory rounds for a 270 and they typically get 3050 with a 130 grain. Then I look at the 6.5 Creed and it gets 2900-2950 with a 130 grain, and the bullets have better BC and it has less recoil.

I get 3020-3050fps with 140 AB's(.491BC) in my 270(24").

The 6.5 Creed will obviously have less recoil but as far as hunting I can't see where it has any advantage out to say 500 yards.

Didn't look at any charts, maybe I'm wrong.

I made a similar choice 50 years ago.. .300 for big deer on up, and the .25-06 for coyotes and everything not handled by the .300.. The designer bullets are for those long, long range shots that the average, and even about average hunter does not make.. Shooting gongs at 800 yards is fun.. But game is a different story.. Not the place to go in to this..

.25-06 ammo can be bought pretty cheap at Wally World!!

I can like that answer. Looking hard at another 270. Prolly a Montana in either 270 or 280AI. grin

Yup--get the Creed if stuck with factory ammo.
Or else switch to a 270.

I think you've answered your own question.

IMO thread done.

Pretty much anything from a 22/250 to a 270 is perfect.

But yeah, buying new and shooting factory might as well get a Creed.

If the 150 LRAB's are out for being too squishy, the 145 ELD-x's or the 140/150 Bergers might be worth a look for better BC.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I think I will go with the old reliable 270.
For factory ammo I'll try the Hornady Superperformance 130 Interbond, Hornady ELD-X 145, and the Winchester 140 Accubond and see what shoots the best.
