I have a Marlin 1895GS 45-70 that I've put about 450-500 rounds of near max 450 cast GC bullet loads through. When I put the bore sighter in it the reticle seems to adjust alright. But, when I shoot it the POI is continually about 4 foot low, and doesn't seem to move. I've never had a scope fail on me before. I always figured that the when the guts of the thing went out the reticle adjustment would nolonger function. This one still does. I have taken the scope off of the rifle, and replaced it with a new untried Leupold VXII 2x7 out of my gunsafe. My range is closed due to a tree falling into it. I was goiing to send the thing back to Simmons per their instructions, but wanted to try the rifle with the other scope first. Has anyone else had a scope fail in this manner?Due to winter weather here in northern Ohio, and the size of the crew needed to clean up the range, the range might be closed for 60 days. Would like to move on with this project. So: The question is can a scope fail and its reticle still respond to adjustment? By the way, this scope is marked made iin the Phillipines. I wonder if the same outfit is now making the Burris Fullfield II line. Any thoughts? Thanks for your input guys.

Yes, they do fail. The reticle can move under recoil after adjustment.
The Simmons scopes can be pretty much hit or miss, pun intended, as to durability. I bought a Rem 7mag that had one mounted. It lasted about 150 rounds, same symptoms.
With your recoil level I would go Leupy, Nikon or Sightron, all of which are very immune to recoil, IMHO.

Most all scopes can fail, but the expedition is one the best scopes for the money that I've seen. I have 2 of the 3x9x 42's and I would'nt part with them. I shot a big 9 pt. and it was so dark I could'nt see my hand but the deer was clear and bright in my Expedition. Not for sure if they'll hold up to the hard kickers., mine are on 30-06's. Hope this helps.

I also have had VERY good luck with Expeditions and Aetecs too but I don't like rattling my brains with big bores either. I had a 2.8-10 Aetec on a Remmy Mod 7 lightweight 308 for 5 years and hunted with it an average of 60 days a year and it was dropped several times from the roof of my Bronco onto hard sand roads and it never changed point of aim. It's a brutally tough scope. I'm going to sell all my Aetecs and Expeditions now though because I've replaced them all with Elite 4200's due to the enhanced light transmission as my eyes get older I really appreciate good glass. Look for them in Classified's or email me at bobwmonahan@earthlink.net$bob$
