Have a bud dropping a rifle at smiths tomorrow and he is having a 20-250 built out of it.

I am telling him to put at least a 10 twist on it and another buddy says that's too tight for 39/40 grain bullets. I say its just right and its hard to over stabilize but easy to under stabilize.

Also they are worried about jacket integrity and I say either get a handlapped barrel installed or lap it yourself to give the bullet a nice smooth ride. No reason a Nosler or Sierra wont handle those velocities in that twist I wouldn't think.

Any input??

Forget the fast twist. If you can get the velocity a 22-250 sized case could deliver, it would take a long shot to overcome the high velocity with fast twist and a heavier bullet.

I run a 1 in 12 on a 20 Practical....

but I shoot 24 to 32 grain bullets out of it...

built a 20 BR a few yrs ago...9T/3G...Pac-Nor...

wanted to use 55 Bergers...all they did was punch a hole through

p/dogs...30 grs down a 20 cal pipe...over bore...20-250 ?

wasting your time & $$....until Hornady builds a 50 gr V max 20

caliber..I'll stick with the 40s...an 11T is about ideal for them..

I shoot three 20 cals...20VT..20PT and my rechambered 20BR...

which is now a 20-222...the VT & PT are 12T...which do work great

with the 40 V max...the 20's are where its at in the p/dog

business...flat as a laser....devastating explosive hits...with the

right bullet...the 20-222 is about as good as it gets......
