Not sure whether you can see this add unless you're a member. I'm curious about it. It has pressed checkering, and sling swivel studs. Looks to be in decent shape, and is priced at $1450. I can't see a barrel boss for the rear sight like an F would have. It appears to be a folding rear sight. I don't see many 358s around here. What can you tell me? https://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/101152-savage-mod-99a-358-win-145000-obo/

Rare bird. Don't know the specific model. You looking for a .358 or just curious about this one?

I have seen several guns like that. They were built when they started stamping 'Series A' on the barrel. They look like Fs without the barrel boss.
I think Rick has some info on them?

If the 99F's in 284 didn't have barrel bosses for the rear sights I can't see the 358's having one. Wall thickness would come into play. It's an F.

Greg Likely you can find a nice F with cut checkering in that price range. Would be a better investment I think. GW

So, are the sling swivel studs aftermarket? Is the price in the ballpark? On closer look, is that pressed checkering?

There was one for sale for a while for $2K, don't know where it went.

It is one of the uncataloged rifles. I think they used C wood, no barrel boss and the serials were in the B500,000, +or-. I've seen enough of them to know they are factory.

I've seen a real late DL in 243, I believe about the last year of DL production that didn't have the rear sight boss. I think they must have gone to the straight tapered barrel on DL's and F's before the end of production. I believe the earlier F's in 358 had the lightweight barrel with rear sight boss. David
