A bucket list item is to hunt Elk during the rut with my bow. I've been reading a lot and was looking at AZ or NM and have spoken with a guide a few times but want to do all of my research before I take the plunge. I would like to keep the hunt (not including airfare, taxidermy, etc.) to 5-8k. I realize some states have a draw while others are OTC or landowner tags. Any recommendations out there? Thanks in advance.

Check out Idaho, too. The general archery season is during Sept and in most units tags are OTC. There's huge range of terrain to choose from, from desert to heavy timber, from relatively flat land to some of the steepest mountains in the country.

Do you have any bonus points in Arizona? Up to 20% of the permits in each hunt number are allowed for NR. The primo units take many points to draw. Unit 9 required 13 points to get in the bonus pass and for NR have a chance to draw last year. Unit 8 archery bull was 7 points. A3, Steve Chappel, TLO, Jim Mullins might be those outfitters/guides in AZ to research.
