What ever happened to this project?

Didn't Starline make brass? No Saami guns?

Always wanted a 41 mag GP-100 4" and thought I saw a custom in Special - unless that was a Single Six or Blackhawk in 41SP

Starline is making the brass. No word on revolvers yet. Would make a dandy chambering in the Ruger Single Six and SP101.

Colt might sell some of those re-intro Pythons if they got adventurous.

But I doubt they will. Theyll sell a handful 2,000$ 357s and theyll go in a closet or drawer....

From what I have read Colt had two opportunities to market a .40-.41 and passed on both. Too bad as the Python/Trooper would have made the perfect size vehicle for one. There were just a couple of Pythons made in .41 Magnum and there was a gunsmith in Texas who also made some... I've seen both sell on GunBroker for HUGE money.

The new 5-shot GP100 could probably take a .41 Magnum but a 6-shot .41 Special would probably be better.

Last I looked Starline still had brass in stock. I bought some and use it for the short cylinder Taurus Tracker and the Clements/USFA custom I have... Also works well when one wants to use long nose bullets in the Freedom Arms 97 that also has a short cylinder.

A 6-shot GP100 size gun in .41 Special was what Keith/Jordan/Skelton envisioned back in the 1960s as the perfect police gun.

i bought some of the starline, only stuff i have loaded in it so far is the 170-180 grain mihec bullet.
Does work good in the taurus, but also the short barrel ruger and a 3inch smith i ran it through.
I was shooting a smith 58 this weekend, i can see this round in a lighter revolver. The 58 continues to remind me of a model 10 on steroids. most of the stuff i load fits in the 41special as i rarely load up to the top end of a magnums potential.
i was futzing with my old 19 last night, the one i carried prior to the changeover to semiauto's. Still like that gun, and thinking like it even better in 41

it took be a while to get around the idea of a .41special, thinking i can always download a .41magnum, thus totally missing the point of this caliber.
Shorter casings, easier ejection, smaller potential gun. And probably better accuracy for a variety of reasons among them being load density. Plus, it handles 90% probably of what i do in 41 anyway, slinging 220 to 260grain bullets at about 1000fps.

O45 and Bob, I would be a fan of the SP101/GP series and a Single Six would be a nice trail gun for sure.

Ron, I KICK myself passing a Nickel 58 about 15 years ago, it was around 400-450 and I thought it was high.....I guess the stock market has doubled since then, not sure what that 58 would go for now, but it was like new....SMOOTH Actions.

As much as I like the 44 Special, I might enjoy a 41 version as much or more, and it MIGHT fit in a smaller package, not sure, but if a 5 shot SP101 could be had, that would be interesting for a compact HG.

The GP-100, always liked the ergos, had one in college that was tank tough and you could not abuse it, recall Wylie Clapp used his 357 he was testing in a ransom rest, seems like a .437 or so 5 shot group was the result, and that may have been average, at 25 yds......who can complain about that?

Ruger seems to be listening to consumers much more than other mfg. - and I could see Ruger and Hornady doing a run, Lipsey's and others would surely support.

How about it Ruger? Someone there surely is reading these threads.....

Ruger won't touch it until it's a SAAMI item. Starline made 50+K pieces of brass for a guy in Tx. I bought some from him when he still had some.

Nice guns guy...."I hate U"...

That said I have been tempted to have Clements do a GP100 but since I have three Taurus Trackers I just can't justify the expense...

As to Ruger and SAMMI...Ruger just started chambering their Precision Rifle in 6mm Creedmore...last I looked it was not a commercial round...has that changed?

I believe Hornady has submitted it to SAAMI.

The attraction to me is a six shot medium frame revolver with more mustard than a 357. An L-frame revolver looks to me like it was made for this round. It just makes so much sense.

I would be more than happy to pay what Ruger is getting for their new 44 Spl., although I would want mine with a 4" barrel and a fluted cylinder. Half lug would be even better. Yeah, basically I'm coveting Savuti's 41.

I covet that GP; beautifully done.

As to the above: how does that mesh with the .204 Ruger and the RCM catletrdoges, as well as the .375 and .416 Ruger? Those were not SAAMI. Ruger could claim and legitimize the .41 Special just as easily as they did those designs.

It was my understanding that those all had SAAMI standardized specs. how else would other manufacturers be able to produce them?

But, I've been wrong before.

So have I; just a question.

Indeed, and Savuti's GPs or a 586/686 in .41 Special would be the cat's pajamas.

.44s and .45s have always scratched my itches well enough that I haven't explored the .41 caliber world. But a medium frame six shot .41 Special would definitely blow the doors off my judgement.

Starline has the brass

https://www.starlinebrass.com/brass-cases/41-Special/

Looks like some folks have been loading & shooting them , although there are no regular production guns specifically for the 41 Special

I put one together a number of years ago on a Single Six. Some members here have shot it and found it dead nuts accurate. Back then a forum gent had Starline make him 10,000 pieces that he went on to sell. I bought 500. Great "little" gun throwing 220's at 800 fps.

I am 41 Magnum aficionado, can't say as I see the "need" for a 41 Special. I have gotten fine accuracy with a 210 SWC over 7.5 grains of Unique out of my 4" M-57. Given that the 41 Magnum is somewhat of a "cult" round-try finding a lever gun in 41 Magnum-I doubt a 41 Special would really sell.

Savuti - NICE! I have suggested a GP-100 in 41 Mag many times over the years. Sig Sauer finally did a 10mm after I asked the CEO at a shot show many years ago.....

What is the top end performance in a strong gun? I am thinking a Special would run 1100-1200 with 215-220s or so in a 4-5" bbl. In a strong gun.....aka cylinder wall thickness, etc.

Blackhawk, no doubt the bulk of arms and ammo sales will likely be maintained by rounds that have been with us for decades.....yet a few new niche rounds will come to market from time and time and a few folks will snatch them up.

Im thinking King Cobra/Trooper MKV (Python if inclined), Ruger 357 frame Flattop Blackhawk and Bisley, Ruger GP 100, the L frame Smith, the short cylinder N frame Smith for six shooters and something from Smith K, Toreass and Charter with five holes.

Thinking a 210-220 @ 1000-1150 fps is doable with flash suppressed, low concussion fuel. Please pass the 4" barrel.

Cant honestly say ANYTHING 327 Mag or 357 Mag makes as much or any more sense than a 41 or 40 "Special" that could be offered to the public.

[bleep] that needs H110/296 functionality is pretty limited, if one is honest.....

This whole "efficiency" mantra isnt just for rivels.
