Nice rifle. Looks like it's been sitting in the safe for 30 years, judging how the recoil pad is squished. Iron sights were very popular when the brought the fwt back to market in 1981. That's a very nice XTR. I'm going to assume the serial # range is from 145xxxx to 1808xxx...
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Yep, figured it was made in '82...

One of the most accurate rifles I ever owned was a push feed model 70 FWT in 257 Roberts. I wish I'd kept it. It got traded off in one of my youthful quests for the newest and greatest. Good find.

I had one for many years. Very accurate. I sold it to a guy who needed something for his kids with the promise to only sell it back to me when he doesn't need it anymore.

Great rifle. That and the 7x57 are great rifles in my opinion. Very good shooters.

Those XTR's of that vintage are super rifles. Some of the best Winchester ever made in my opinion, and I own multiple pre-64's. That's a pretty rifle and a great caliber. Have a standard model in 300 H&H of about that vintage, one of the most accurate rifles I've ever owned.

Those are wonderful rifles.. I happened upon one about maybe late '80s or so. Not a mark on it.. $495. Still have it - still love it.. But about two years after I bought that one, it's sister showed up on the same rack at the LGS.. Same price.. I passed. And I'm still kicking myself in the azz for THAT smart move...

A fire member here recently passed their FWT 257R onto me (very fair price) . I haven't shot it, but will report when I do.

One of the ones I wish I had back. Mine was a shooter, I have a soft spot for the XTRs.
