I've had my Vortex Viper fer a while now. 4x16x50. I love the Vortex line, have 4 now but my Viper power adjustment is TIGHT. Ifin I was an older guy w/ arthritis, I probably would have to get rid of it. It's tight enough that it scares me at times to adjust it...
Does anyone know of an issue w/ these or have the same issue or possible fix. Its still hunting season so I don't want to take it off and send it to the factory if I can help it.
Thanks!

Don't own any Vortex scopes but have the same problem with a Leupold VXI and a VXII. I sent the VXI back to Leupold with a complaint of the difficult to turn the ring and it was supposedly fixed. Guess what? I can't feel any difference. It's still hard to turn.

OK, I took some Strike Hold (only stuff I use) and put it around the adjustment and moved it back and forth. It worked out purty good. I did notice it has a hex bolt in the dial itself that "may" adjust the tightness but I didn't want to mess with it just in case...

Have you tried a power throw lever?

Have you tried a power throw lever? Didn't even think of that! I'll have to give her a try if the Strike Hold doesn't hold up long, but it feels like it has smoothed out a great deal!

My Vortex is hard to turn also. Was wondering if they would take it back and somehow loosen it a bit. Mine is a Diamondback. I love it for all it's other attributes, but the Power ring issue is a pain.

Check the torque on your rear scope ring screws. Over-tightening the rear scope ring is almost always the cause of a stiff power ring.
17 in/lbs doesn't feel very tight, but i think that is Vortex's spec. Holding the short end of the supplied wrench or using just your forefinger and thumb on a screwdriver type wrench is all you need.

The power throw lever looks like it would work, but it's $90. You would think Vortex would sell it for less, seeing it's a modification to aleviate a tight ring.

My Ziess Couquest HD5 is that way and the colder it gets the harder it is to turn. Get past 0 degrees and you have to have a firm grip on the adjustment ring and good grip gloves and you can get it turned.

Kilmer may be right. I tighten my rings with a Warne Torque wrench, because I use Warne rings. The torque wrench is non-adjustable. It is set for Warne's recommended torque of 25 ft-lbs. That may be too tight for Vortex. I think I will contact Vortex and bring this up.

All good info and glad to know I'm not the only one and Vortex is not the only manufacturer that is guilty of this...Hope it helps others too...Thanks folks!
