I have been looking at a Winchester 77 with a tubular magazine. It looks and feels good, but the $400 price is putting me off.

Are Winchester 77 well thought of by Winchester collectors?

What is a fair price for a 90% Winchester 77?

I see the clip version every now and then, but not often, they usually sit for awhile before selling. There are several on GB right now, Im not a Winchester guru, but they dont seem like a $400 gun to me.

In 1963 I got a new Win 77 tube feed when I was 12 year old. The retail price was $55, and the Winchester prices were franchised, but I could get a wholesale price on that specific model through purchasing agents where my father worked.

I got sand in it and it jammed. I sold it for $12 in 1970.

In August 2016 I got a Win 77 clip feed made in ~1961 for $179.

As you can see the clip fed is missing the safety. The safety is not easy to install. I made a 2 minute Youtube pictorial showing one way to do it.

260Remguy: I would say that $400.00 for a 90% Model 77 is indeed high - $400.00 for a mint one (of which I have two) is real world "pushin it"!
They are fun guns and do bring about much interest at Gunshows and such.
90%'er I would guesstimate should be worth $275.00 maybe a tad more - depending on your assessment of 90%.
Good luck.
