Close friend has a 6700...his first 1911 and could not be happier... Only thing it needed was a trigger job.

Zero issues, eats everything...great value.

Had a 6700 since late 2011. Eats everything I fed it, including the acid test, my 200 gr swc reloads.

No FP safety, another plus.
Nice sights. One 8 rd and one 7.

A very good choice, IMO, for the entry level 1911.

RJM and Savuti, thanks for the feedback.I would really like a Dan Wesson but they are a tad out of my reach right now! A good friend has the 6700 and pretty much told me the same things that you guys have.

Mine is a 6711 - lightweight commander-style. Nice pistol. Good sights. Great value for price in my opinion.

I'm more accurate with my all-steel 1911s, the weight does make a difference. I am getting better with the Ruger with practice. Not an issue if you're looking at steel frame versions.

The stock trigger is better than my mid 80s vintage Colt, not as good as my Kimber.

It is more sensitive to magazines than my other two 1911s. Have found 4 so far that work fine in the Colt and Kimber, but cause feeding problems in the Ruger. Not a big deal, just marked them to keep separated.

BUT - new Colts are right around the same MSRP as the Rugers, although street prices may vary. If I was buying now I'd probably get a Colt.

There have been some reports of the front sight breaking off but that has been a few years ago.

My trigger is not light but crisp. I would guess 5 pounds.

6700 here since not long after they became available. No complaints, except I don't care for the trigger it came with. Easy fix, and one that I would likely have done with any production 1911.

The plunger tube is part of the frame - not swaged on as in an original spec 1911. That part has been known to come loose in other 1911's, although I think that is easily avoided. Some (myself included) see this as an improvement, but others note that if the tube is damaged by impact, a repair is much more involved.

Trigger on mine trips right at 4.5 lbs. I have a variety of mags, and they all work perfectly in my SR1911. I have not had a problem with the front sight. Accuracy is very good.

I see the price has gone up considerably since I bought mine, bringing it into the realm of a comparable Colt. Ruger's warranty service reputation and health of the company tilt the scale in their favor though, IMO.

I have the full size, light weight commander, and I had the commander.

As another member stated, I shoot the full size better than the light weight.

Shooting the 5" all steel gun really is a joy.

I've owned a number of 1911's, and have a Ruger commander. In my opinion it's a great value for the money. I did a trigger job on mine and changed the front sight to a fiber optic. It shoots great.

Every one that I have seen have been very well executed in build quality. And they have all shot straight and feed well; I think they're a solid 1911.
