Excellent replies all.
I'm going to bump this up for just a couple more days, in an attempt to allow others to also offer their insight.
Thank you to all who have responded thus far.

I had a Howa in a 6.5x55 for a little while. It shot decent but I did not care for the overmolded stock size. I like the feel just not the clunky width and weight. I sold it and recently bought a tikka superlite 6.5x55. I still have norma brass on the bench to start loads with. I am thinking I want to shoot 140s in it but I have 120 NBT and 129 gr hornadys as well. There is a significant number of posters here on the 'fire who refer to their tikka 6.5x55 as their most accurate rifle. Mine feels nice and I expect it will shoot well also. The Howa/Vanguard is a quality firearm but I think the Tikka is a nicer overall option in stock form.

I bought a Howa when Sportsmans Warehouse had the 6.5x55 for $295. I wanted a Swede and how could I beat the price for a rifle that I know has a history of shooting well. I intended to work up a load for it this spring and play around with it. I have always thought the Houge felt like a toy stock. Then came the big sale on the Tikka rifles and I bought one in a 6.5x55 with a fluted barrel. Moved the Howa down the road to a family needing a hunting rifle for their daughter... it was a good fit. I much prefer the feel and handling of the Tikka to the Howa base model. I know the accuracy will be great with the Tikka as well, although I had little doubt in the Howa

Will those Remington boys ever wake up and chamber the Creedmoor?? They are too busy trying to keep those bolt handles glued on... My vote is for Tikka 10 to 1....
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Opinion!
You know the Vanguard action well. And you are familiar with their factory stock. You had PacNor put the 358WSM barrel on one and it along with about a dozen other rifles was stolen from your trailer while you and your bride overnighted in Tuscon.
You are familiar with the Tikka. You helped me work on mine and saw it mash that moose and you loaded that whitetail I shot with it into the Jeep.
What I appreciate about you is that with your experience and knowledge you are still willing to ask for and listen to others thoughts on the subject. That tends to display some humility and wisdom.
The combined gun knowledge found on the 24hourcampfire exceeds anything we have experienced. I hope you get several replies here because I know you will gain from them and act accordingly.
My suggestion is buy a Tikka, shoot it about fifty times, and then determine if you need another stock and what that should be. The guys here sure do have plenty of experience and knowledge to draw from.
Looking forward to the replies here.
What I want to know is if you "upgraded" your Tikka stock? I think I'd do exactly like you suggest and shoot the tikka with its factory stock and then make the decision on whether it needs a different stock... Good advice..

The best thing I ever did with a Tikka stock was 20 minutes with a rounded soldering iron

Get a Tikka. I have a few of them. I didn't care much for the Vanguard from Japan.

Thanks everyone. I'm convinced that the Tikka is what I'll run..., in the Swede of course.
Anybody been (safely) close to 3000 fps with the 130 class in the 6.5x55.? I meadn close to 60K-62K for pressure..?

Just bought a Tikka hunter in the 6.5-55, havent got to shoot it yet. Not a fan of the recoil pad but that can be changed, if it shoots like everyone says ill be even more happy. Check out eurooptics.com they had the cheapest price of anybody i compared.
