Richard and Sam - you have my wholehearted support for the courage to grow corn (and admit it at the 'fire) when the general tendency at the 'fire is to blame corn for all of mankind's ills, from the rise of the Democratic Party to the heartbreak of psoriasis. Keep up the good work. Best, John

Well John, 1, most of the jokers on the freak show would not slum down here.
2,Corn makes prime beef.
3, Even what the Canucks call, "Rye", has a fair amount of maize in it.
4, I do not like it in small engines, but my wife's car runs well on E85, at 3/4 the price of regular gas.
5, Wildlife likes the grain well enough.
I could go on, and on-----.

Roasting ears are pretty good too. They plant field corn here the last of March, or the first of April, on average. Sweet corn a couple of weeks later. miles
Look out for number 1, don't step in number 2.

We plant ours around the 20th of May. Usually chop in September, and pick around November.

Only corn I grow is in the garden plant around june 1st We usually try to plant sweet corn the first couple of weeks of March. I plant "incredible" the last few times, but used to plant "Sweet G-90". It is a toss up on taste but the incredible will have more ears and better filled out. It usually is ready from the middle to end of June. Sweet G-90 was always near the 4th of July. My wife and I don't eat much corn anymore and my MIL died a couple of years ago, so I will not plant any. Neighbor will give me a few ears to eat when it gets ready. I liked growing corn but no need if we are not eating it. miles
